MSN Live Messenger Infected!

So I sign in into MSN Messenger. Right away, I get a message from a "buddy" that I never talk to saying "Check out my new Pictures". I was dumb enough to accept the file. I scanned it with AVG before opening, and it said no threads found. So I opened it.

Now, it looks like it infected me because my other "buddys" have been getting the same message, and I'm guessing infected as well.

My question is, how can I make it STOP!!
I have AVG Anti-Virus
AVG Anti-Spyware

Both were scanned. Anti-virus found some threads but deleted. Virus was cleaned.

I have tried the following:
-Re-set the computer from a previous date. Going back and booting it from last week. (Didn't work)
-Deleted MSN Messenger, and re-installed it (Nothing)
-FULL Scan of Virus, and Spyware (Nothing)

They are still getting the message, and I'm just lost at this point.

p.s. Looks like it's been sending different messages to my friends, but same file:
"I think I found some pictures of you on Myspace!!!!!"
"take a look at this picture i took of my new hair color. What do you think?"

Yes this is a major thing going around it drives me nuts!!!!!!!!

I would try and reinstall msn and see what happens, i have never go this so i don't know how to repair it and also try scanning with a spyware virus scan and see what that comes back with.

I looked around and this sounds like your virus. They suggest you do this:

1) Delete the registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
"nVidia Display Driver" = "nvsvc64.exe"

2) Delete the virus files:
C:\Windows\system32\nvsvc64.exe
%temp%\imageXX.zip
%temp%\XX.exe

I have done all of those. After uninstalling MSN Messenger, I went down to the C drive, and deleted the whole folder as well. Spyware took over an hour of scanning about 15gigs, and found about 19+ infections(been a while). Everything was deleted.

My options are:
-Re-install Windows. About a month old computer. Nothing important(just pics that I can burn)
-Pay someone at "Geek squad" $$$$
-Help from you guys, but my computer skills are limited :-(

Doing this as we speak, but can't seem to find it! :mad:

EDIT: Found the Registry Folder, but can't find the file. (nvsvc64.exe)

Oh please don't screw up your registry. That's a nasty msn virus, but it's easy to cure.
Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Well seems that filehippo has removed the link...I am sorry.
Also that version is a bit outdated but it'll do fine.
Also, guess what? I can't find a trace of msn virus in your log. However I found some other malwares and foistwares.

Please go to Virus Total or Jotti and upload ] for scanning.

For Virus Total

  1. Please copy and paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\pyrczdfxreja.exe in the text box next to the Browse button.
  2. Click on Send File.

For Jotti

  1. Please copy and paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\pyrczdfxreja.exe in the text box next to the Browse button.
  2. Click on Submit.
Copy the log you get here.

I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player's components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager -- the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.
To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight >>Viewpoint component<< , click Remove.
  • Do the same for each Viewpoint component.

Please after you do all that, post a fresh HijackThis log and a log file you get when you submit a file.
