I just need it to play bluerays flawlessly, surf the net, play streaming HD 1080, HDMI output. I'm a neanderthal when it comes to computers, my car still has a carb on it. Would greatly appreciate the help, thanks.

Here is my computers component list: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5891/5891cl2.shtml

AMD Athlon64, 3500, with Nvidea Geforce 6100, FIC KTBC51G Motherboard, power supply 300watts.

this will be more than good enough, if you'd like something cheaper we can prob pull it down some, but picked these as they are great performaers and will last you a good long time since you are the way you are with upgrading

A friend recommended this video card with my setup : http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=02G-P3-1529-KR&family=GeForce 500 Series Family&sw=

how do you think the two stack up considering theyr almost identical in price. Thanks

i'm sure the 5670 is better, the nvidias around that price tend to be more htpc style than gaming, and also there's this

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-performance-radeon-geforce,2997-7.html

although i don't thing the numbers are right since i don't think the gap should be that big, but there's also these

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=Radeon+HD+5670

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+520

which got me wondering so i found this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...iption=gt 520&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20

the place you get it from makes it worth it or not, manufacturers and retailers always mark it up more than newegg and tigerdirect

Thanks Jonny, think I'm going with the last one you linked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...yMark=False&IsFeedbackTab=true#scrollFullInfo

$32.99 after rebate is hard to beat.

Do you think the power supply is necessary for that? My stock one is 300W.

If I install this new card and the juice is not enough, what will happen?

I plan on being here for a while, need to catch up on technology, u think? lol if you guys ever have any car questions, don't hesitate to PM me, I'm a mechanic by trade and a mechanical watch collector for fun. Once again thanks for the help.

Hopefully it all works out and I'm set for at least a couple of years. It's my first time installing all this, but after watching some tutorial videos, I'm not really sweating it. Seems easy enough, but just incase are there any little tips that might make my install easier?

one last thing, is the memory just plug and play or do I need to download a driver or make my computer recognize it and how do I know its working? Thanks

As long as you are sure your system takes ddr1 memory then its just a matter of inserting the memory in the slot and booting up making sure windows detects it. No driver or software is needed.

Just checked system specs and it does take ddr1 memory, so you are good to go.

also, make sure your hands are clean and dry befor you brush against something in there and get oil or water on it, also pull the power cable out of the psu and hit the power button a few times to be safe before you start, then just pop the little hooks out and stick her in, then lock the ram in, plug the power, and try to boot, this helps to prevent any issues.

got plenty of issues with (to be) my '86 i believe silverado, mainly lack of money for new calippers (front brakes locking) and a new bushing for the tranny, other than that mostly cosmetic, which we have an un-opened dash for it. but since it's my dad's and i'm 15 and have never driven it and he hasn't in a while due to those probs, will be a while before anything happens with it

All the goodies arrived today and I just finished installing them. The upgrades are performing better then expected and so far it was worth every penny. I owe you guys bigtime, without this forum I would have been lost. Thanks!

Here's what I got:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236059
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131398
and added 2GB RAM for a total of 3GB.

I'm watching an HD divx while I'm surfing at full resolution without a hiccup.

My next mod is going to be an AMD64 x2 dual processor and then I'm done and saving up for a gaming build, most likely a Sandy Bridge.

I have a couple of simple questions about the dual processor upgrade, I more or less know the answer but just want to double check.
Is a power supply upgrade necessary going from single to dual cpu? and what is better, thermal paste or pad? and what do you guys use to remove old paste?

Looks like it supports up to a Socket 939 Athlon 64 X2 4800. It will work fine with the power supply you got.
