Parents need HDD in RAID

I'm building a computer for my parents and was wondering if in RAID 1 I need the same amount of memory in the hdd that mirrors the other one, or if i could have on HDD at 640gb and one at maybe 250gb.

Raid 1 you will only get the smaller of the hard drive sizes....

Do remember that some RAID controllers don't let you RAID drives of different capacities, and some refuse to RAID different brands/models. It's best and easiest to get two identical discs, and usually this option works the best.
