password protect software

hello dudes. I want to know if there is a software which protects folders, usb drives and hard drive partition with password... I found software which hides the files in the folder and to show you the files you must enter a password. I don't need that. I want software which will password protect the files or in other words when you try to open the protected folder first you must enter password... Can someone tell me if there is such a software?

I Zip the files, and put password to unzip them

A quick Google "folder protect" will provide a number of solutions. You may also find this guide helpful before you risk locking your files.

It is really good to see this thread. I am also interested in getting know how to put a pass word for my pen drive. Is there any recommended software to be installed? Are they could be downloaded freely or for a fair cost? Do they need to be updated regularly? How about the quality of the links that you have mentioned?
