PC shutting down when I make contact with USB ports

I have a gut feeling this has something to do with my PSU.

For the past few weeks, whenever I am attempting to plug something in to one of my USB ports (either front or back), the PC will shut off immediately. It seems like there is some type of shortage going on.

I have not made any internal changes in awhile. The only other changes may have been in the BIOS, but I believe those were also awhile ago.

What specifically could be causing this, and what can I do to fix it?

Devices currently plugged in are no problem, but when I attempted to plug in my iPhone a few times, and a USB web camera another time, the PC immediately shut off.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

I would try a different power supply first. Then I would look at a motherboard shortage somewhere, maybe between case and motherboard. Did you use the brass standoffs in the correct places?

Sounds like there may be an issue with my case -- Coolermaster HAF 922. I'm going to try a few known fixes tonight.
