please help comp wont boot up

ok well i went to turn on my computer and everything looked fine untill i loged on to my windows account. after i type in my password it goes to a black screen and wont do anything, i even left it on overnight and it stayed black im wondering if any one has had this problem before i really need to get on the computer any help is very appreciated, thanks

And your OS is?

Are you sure you don't have a virus/worm/trojan?

(oops edit) Can your machine start in safe mode?

Have you tried a rescue disk (boot disk)? If so, does the computer start-up?

If you have a DVD/CD in the optical drive, take the disk out and then try to restart. (yes I know this is a long shot, but worth a try.)

There is more I could have asked; but I thought it would be best to start with the simplest possibilities.

oh sorry yea I have windows vista ultimate,
and im not sure if its a virus/trojan issue,
I have tried restarting the computer in safe mode with no luck.
i will now try a bootdisk and see what happens.
