problem with internet

hello to all, just trying to find out for a friend at work about a minor problem he has with his internet connection and was wandering if the good peeps here can shed some light on it for me. and thanks for any help

anyway here is the problem that he has

The problem is

my PC which is wired to my router via an ethernet cable sometimes loses its connection to the internet and I have local access only meaning I am connected to the home network, I can connect with the laptop and transfer files but cant access the internet. The laptop is wireless as is my phone and both can still connect to the internet.

The router, cable and filter are brand new so it must be something on my PC.

I have updated the drivers for my network card aswell as reinstalling it and to my knowledge nothing has changed software wise on the PC.

Sometimes it just comes back on its own other times I have to reboot the PC and/or router.

I am running Vista Home Premium SP 2, Avast and Super antispyware

Either bad router or bad ethernet card. Most likely somthing is getting too hot I would assume.
