Problem with restart

Hi. I have a 9 year old computer and I have recently added 1GB of memory to it and changed the motherboard battery. I am running Windows XP on it and I have a problem.

When I do shutdown from windows everything works fine however when I do restart after logging off windows the computer does not start again, the screen goes blank and there is a sound coming out of the computer however when I do restart by pressing the restart button it works fine.

Is this connected to the adding of the memory (maybe it is not 100% compatible) or it's a software problem? If it's a software problem how can I solve it???

may be this help you out with, what kind of noise it gives out most probably it will be a beeping noise... check the above link that may be helpful to you... alternatively u can find it here too

take out the memory you added then start from there.

Yes when the screan goes blank it starts beeping, like once every second till I press the restart button
