Problems with Flashget

Hey all!
I have a problem with my Flashget download manager. I have installed it on my Windows 7 x64 desktop (see specs below), but cannot get Flashget to download files simultaneously. I have, of course, set the maximum number of simultaneous jobs to 8 (not 1), and when I start the download of multiple files, the first 8 do indeed show the green arrow (meaning they are downloading), however nothing happens for 7 of these files, and only 1 starts to download. I have tried an alternative to Flashget, Free Download Manager, but very weirdly, it behaves the same way.
This is very annoying. What could be causing it?

Have you tried manually starting the downloads and making sure that the traffic usage mode in FDM is set to Heavy Mode?

I have since uninstalled FDM as I do not like it as much as Flashget, and since it suffers the same issue, I though I might as well stick with FG.
Yes, when I start the downloads in FG one by one I can have them download simultaneously. But this is hardly a practical situation.

As much as I value your input, it is of no use whatsoever in solving my problem.

If the problem is present along the board, surely there must be some sort of problem in a commonly used element.
