RAM problem : Will this work?

I currently am using a p35 board and running 2 x 1G 800Mhtz, using 2 of 4 ram slots.

Now I wish to increase the amount of RAM in my computer. I have 2 questions.

1)Is it ok for me to add 2 X 2G RAM 800Mhtz in the remaining ram slots, ending up with 6G RAM? or
2)must I add 2 x 1G RAM 800MHtz to run 4G ram?

I do play on using win7 64bit so there will not be 'excessive' ram.

Thanks in advance!

what's the model number of your motherboard? the best way to find out is to go to the motherboard manufacturers website (or somewhere that sells it) and check on there what the maximum ram is it can take, and the maximum per slot as well.

If each dim slot can hold say, a 2gb or 4gb, or 8gb, you should be fine...

The slots dont have to equal each other...

if you have a branded desktop(dell, hp, compaq, acer, gateway, etc.)go to kingston.com , then use theyre memory search...it will list all branded computers and their specs... :)

if you can use 2gb chips on your board,
i would put the 2gb chips in the 0 and 1 slot where the 1 gb chips are and add the 1gb chips in slot 3 and 4
