Router & Internet Speeds

Hi all,

I have mycampus.net for my internet provider, I am promised 1gbpos down and up. I can achieve those speeds in my room when I connect my PC directly to the ethernet port in my room. However, if I first plug a router in and then connect my PC to that through an ethernet cord, I receive significantly slower speeds. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? I have tested all the ethernet cords and all show the same results. If I take out the router, my DL speeds jump up to 100 Mbps from 10mpbs down.

Yeah... you'd need a better router. A decent one's not too expensive luckily. A pretty good one can be had for under $100.

Dang that's a cheap router. Even with gigabit interfaces it wouldn't have the internals to route that.

Step up your price range by at least double, some of the tp link archer ones were pretty good

Would also nope on that, no reason to be chained to the single 2.4 GHz ISM band in 2023.

Absolute bare minimum should be dual band, AC devices aren't that expensive.
