Searching for a 120mm FAN

Hey all,

I am looking to replace my Antec fan's (from my Antec New Solution NSK2480 case) and replace it by a more silent fan's. But I really have no clue, which fan is more silent and gives me about the same performance as the ones of Antec.

Here is a list of the scyth's:
http://www.alternate.be/html/produc...archCriteria=scyth&cat1=020&cat2=000&cat3=017

They seemed quit oke, especially this one: http://www.alternate.be/html/productDetails.html?artno=TL9Y40

7.5 dBa!

Thanks anyway, Zangetsu.

I would also be considering the CFM rate too when buying a quieter fan ,

Try and find a happy medium of the two. - Noise versus Airflow ;)

Don't consider the CFM or dBa rating. Both are not regulated, manufacturers can say whatever they want. fyi, 7.5 dBa is an impossible rating because the ambient noise in a testing room is about 15 dBa.

I have two Scythe Slipstream fans, one 1200 RPM and one 800 RPM. The 500 RPM fan you're looking at will be basically inaudible, but it's not going to move as much air as the Antec fans you're looking to replace.

I have all my fans hooked up to a fan controller....I can make a tornado in my case when I want and run it quite when my wife sleeps...I win no matter what. When I game I crank it up and it sounds like a vacuum, everything down low I can barely hear it. I think it is the best way to control performance and noise when the situation dictates. It's really easy to install with 3 pin fans.

First, I doubt the OP is American considering the website he linked to.

Second, he's looking to replace Antec Tri-Cool fans, which offer the same balance between airflow and noise as what you're suggesting. At high they push more than enough air and at low they're quiet enough for most users, and absolutely quieter than that Ultra Kaze you're linking to. He's looking for something more silent, and you linked to some of the loudest case fans in existence.

Moreover, your temperatures and subjective perception of the noise your computer makes are irrelevant; there's far too many variables.

Surely that would come under trade descriptions act!
!:confused:

Anyway... back on topic>>>>>> I found these that claim to be pretty quiet whist producing decent airflow ;)

No. There is no third party that regulates such "specs"; it's just a marketing tool. Now please stop countering the facts I'm offering with your speculations, it confuses other members and wastes time.

Check out the Sythe FM121, it pushes around 133 CFM when running at 2,400 RPM, but is pretty loud. It comes with a controller though, so you can run it pretty low, getting rid of noise, but it still pushes a load of air ;)

..And I repeat, he's looking to replace Antec Tri-Cools with something quieter.

Silverstone FM121 at lowest starting voltage > Antec Tri-Cool on low, in terms of noise produced.

@Zangetsu. What's your Budget? I don't suppose liquid cooling would interest you would it?

I understand that you're getting desperate to undermine my accurate and informed suggestions to the OP, but really, that was just stupid. He's looking for case fans.

@Zangetsu
@Zangetsu
@Zangetsu...... What's your name?.....not Zangetsu is it !!!!!

I'm sure that if his ultimate goal is to achieve a "quieter system" then he will be open to ALL suggestions !!!!
Now stop "wasting time" ;)

liquid cooling

quieter system

A common misconception for those that are susceptible to buying into advertising and hype and have never actually used liquid cooling or a truly quiet computer.

Liquid cooling is for performance, and isn't quiet by any stretch. I won't go into detail because frankly, you wouldn't understand. You probably think it has to be quiet for the manufacturers to be allowed to claim so on the box, or something equally naive.

WHATEVER you say:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Anyway........ getting back to the problem in hand............

Until Zangetsu comments further on the thread so far- I have nothing further to say because you obviously like to start flame wars and I'm NOT INTERESTED in doing that!!

SG1;)

Good, and hopefully you won't comment further if he does respond since your advice is, well, wrong.

If you want to come into threads and say something like "HURRR ARE YOU SURE?" that's your right, but don't have a tempter tantrum when I explain to why I am indeed sure. If that's a "flame war" to you, I suggest you stay out of threads you know nothing about.

PS: "flame war" is not synonymous with "fortyways gave the OP competent and accurate advice and then sg1 came and contradicted him for no reason, and when fortyways corrected sg1, sg1 decided to label the entire thing as 'flame war' rather than retort with technical information since sg1 has no idea what sg1 is talking about", so please call it what it is next time.

PPS: putting a wink emoticon at the end of every post makes you look even more inept than you are (and that's a notable feat).
