Long story short: My son is helping a classmate edit a class project filmed in an old Sony Video Hi-8 (camera belongs to the classmate). Sony will not allow him to capture and edit with Windows Movie Maker.

What free editing software can you recommend that works with Sony's video Hi8?

Thanks!

Hi jjsevdt. Your response is much appreciated. Because we never worked with this camera before, let alone a Sony camera, we were not aware that the USB was not designed to download movies to a PC. The firewire option is what we needed.

I thought there was one but Sony refuses to call it such and even the cable is called i.Link.

So it looks like we'll be able to capture and edit afterall. Thanks again.

as far as i know ,there are so many video converter can resolve your problem.of course, many of them are not free. actually ,i wasted a long time in looking for a good converter for free, but failed, the free version only have the basic functions and some are not secure. at last ,i choose Aunsoft video converter that helps you convert between various formats easily. and it can edit video with trimming, cropping, watermark, filter effect.... it is great ~

you can give a try .good luck ~
