Strangest problem I have run across !! Really need Help

Windows (any version)
Putting a system together and got everything working good. Unplugged
and tied and buttoned everything up nice and neat.

When I booted it back up the mouse wouldn't work.

Here's the really crazy part ...

Full new install of win 7 ... mouse NOT working
System bios screens ... mouse working fine.
Mini XP boot rescue disk .. mouse NOT working
Linux boot disk ... mouse works fine
Win 7 reinstall disk ... mouse NOT working ( at any time )

In other words ... the mouse works everywhere but windows. Any version.
Even at the beginning of an installation disk !!!!!!!! it doesn't work
Tried XP and win 7 ...

Catch this ... the motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H even has a
switch controlled bios backup .. and going over to the backup didn't help.

Yep tried every BIOS setting ..

What in the heck !!!!!!! Really need this system going too.

What mouse do you have? Have you tried a different mouse?

I have John ..

I bought this MB barely used from a guy that did some mining .. I really think
the board is ok .. I honestly think it was something I did .. but .. I have
never seen anything like this.

I know the machine is seeing the USB's because I can boot from usb.

I must have done something while screwing everything down. But what
does windows do that no other OS does .. I mean you would think that
the beginning of a Windows install disk would be calling standard system or bios drivers for the mouse.

Ok. Remove the motherboard from the case and build it outside on a piece of cardboard to see if it works correctly there. Did you use the correct amount of standoffs and in the correct places?

ok .. here is something interesting ..

I posted this to the gigabyte forum .. and a guy there said .. did I try
and start windows without it .. then plug it in .

I tried it .. and IT WORKED !!! ..

but that just gives us a clue .. how do I get windows to see it
starting up with it ?

Thanks John .. first thing I tried.

BUt .. I did make some discoveries.

Ok .. here is what is happening. There are 6 usb ports on the back.

All of them work fine on everything but windows.

The bottom two, work ok with windows and everything else.

So .. what it amounts to .. is that only two of the six will work
with windows.

I can at least continue on with that .. but .. it is still a huge mystery.

These are all USB3 ports and it prob has something to do with that.

Thanks a lot for the help .. but .. remember this so that
when some says that some ports are windows compatible and some
are not .. it can be true ( even if it is caused by a problem of some type )

Any usb 3.0 ports won't work until you get inside windows. You will need to use the usb 2.0 ports for mouse and keyboard.

USB 3 ports will work fine any time as they're native on teh z77 chipset. In windows however when the chipset drivers are not installed you can have problems.

If they are native why is there a usb 3.0 driver to download on their support page? This is why during windows install anything plugged into the usb 3.0 ports will not work.

Thats for the extra non intel chipset that the motherboard supports.

if this comes down to simply not installing usb 3 drivers, welll derpe derp.

He most likely has the mouse connected to the Via usb 3.0 ports instead of the Intel usb controller. That board has 2 usb 3.0 controllers.
