Tearing my teeth out!

Hi all Im new here , Im hoping this forum will be an invaluable resource for my constant IT catastrophes!

I have tried connecting my PC to my TV! - ok simples I hear you say ... well not for me.

Its a geforce FX5200 card with S-video out , I then purchased an s video to 3 phono , yes red , white and yellow , connected them all up and have now burnt out 2 connectors on my TV firstly the AV3 which I directly connected all phono leads to and a scart on the back.

When connected I had a large buzzing audio and the visual was just a black flickering screen , there was a sign than there was my PC picture on there but I checked everywhere for setting and tried everything but had not luck.

From this rambling any idea what I did wrong?

Thanks John.
