Time to build again

Looking to build a new tower. Monitor is not an issue, same with keyboard, mouse, etc.

This computer will be for all-around normal use, some gaming, burning, the typical stuff. I am mostly looking to see if you think my components will be a good fit and nothing sticks out to you in the way of a bad component. I welcome any comments and also suggestions on how I could make it a better system, without raising the price. Not looking for fanboy comments regarding brands or other pointless suggestions just because "you have it."

The other thing I need is a good suggestion for a PSU for this system. I'm looking for a good quality and brand PSU around 700W or so, the more amps the better of course. Something reasonably priced around $75-90 should do it. I don't need people recommending 1000W psu's for say $150, just because "you won't regret it man, can't have too much power" or some other silly reason.

Enough of my rambling, on to the system:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83Ghz LGA 775 ($220)

Mobo - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 ($120)

Memory - G.Skill 4GB (2X2GB) 240-pin DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) times 2 ($110)

HDD1 - WD Caviar SE 320GB 7200rpm Sata2, 8MB cache ($50)

HDD2 - WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200rpm Sata2, 32MB cache ($100)

Optical1 - Sony black DVD drive ($18)

Optical2 - Samsung black DVD burner ($26)

GPU - Evga Geforce GTX 260 ($185)

Case - Antec P182 mid-tower ($145)

PSU - ???

Could I get memory for this setup that would give a fairly noticeable increase in performance (even on benchmarks, memory only), for about the same price?

I would recommend going with a phenom II system at this price point, as the socket 775 that the core 2 duo uses is basically end of life, and no new processors will be released, while AM3 on the other hand will be backward compatible for a good amount of time.

These are some good power supplies:

Edit: For power supply, this is one of the best 750W for the price, and saves money because it has a combo with the case you have chosen:

Thanks for your input regarding AM3, I was considering it. Still looking for psu's in the $75-90 price range. Meaning, without having to send in a mail-in rebate, then wait for 3 weeks for your piddly money to arrive.

You check the edit with the case+psu combo? To be honest the only psu's that are any good in the 700-750W range will be around $100 before rebates unless on sale or in a combo, like the antec truepower above.

I may have to spring for a $90-100 psu. Although a quality 650W psu would probably do just fine as well. Thanks for mentioning the case + psu combo. I think I will stick with an intel system rather than going with an amd am3. I don't exactly upgrade my system every year, more like at least a few years between. This system should do me easy for a few years, and by then...I would have rather gone with a new system totally (like now), rather than upgrading with the same mobo.

One more thing, anyone have good suggestions on a heatsink/fan combo for this system? I am still researching them myself, but figured I would ask anyway. In this case, anyone with the same mobo/cpu as the ones I have listed would bring weight to any suggestions.

Well, tbh, if you want more memory speeds, an am3 system would be the way to go for ddr3, plus the on die memory controller(faster than the northbridge based controller on intel 775 boards). This is a good heatsink for both 775 and am3 systems:

Also, not sure where you are paying $189 for a gtx260 from...but you can get a gtx275 or HD4890 for about that price:

Thanks again for your input. That heatsink/fan looks like it would work well. I definately understand that the GF 275 is a great buy at around $200, but a lot of the higher end cards are these days. The 260 fits in well price-wise and performance wise with what my gaming uses will be. If I spent just $15 or $20 more on every component... Gotta draw the line somewhere.
