We could use a little more info. Have you tried the drive on another computer? What kind of cable did it come with (you may need a "split-end" (or whatever) USB cable to provide additional power, or a power adaptor)? Also, I assume that you're plugging it directly to the lappy, not through a hub, correct? What laptop are we talking about here?

As hackaplete said, have you changed the cable as you may need a cable with too ends, one for extra power and one for the transfers.

may be two reasons the first that the device is not common there or ur cable is not working effeciently
