Well, the Acer does has an i7 and a Radeon 5650, so I think it's considered a "desktop replacement."
But it depends on what your preference is really, if you're going to play high-end games, take the Acer.
Otherwise, take the Vaio because Sony Vaio's always have had a higher resale value than any other brand of laptop besides Apple.

The Sony was built better from the manufactor, plus I have lost count the amount of complaining on this forum about acer tech support, so when it does break enjoy dealing with them.
