I am a complete newb at this. I was wondering if this setup will even work and if I am missing anything.

Basically is I want a kick ass system for 1000-1200 maybee a little more. I will be using it for gaming and from what I have been reading intel seems to be the way to go right now. let me know If I am a complete retard. Post any setups you think would work for me.

not sure on what power supply I need??

Need cheap cd/dvd/burner combo
also need a cheap case and need to know if i need fans or anything else.

Get this power supply instead.. you'll want it for the 8800GTS.

I think it would power a 8800 but i would reccomend these for that setup

Only other thing i would suggest it maybe try and get the 640mb card over the 320, with newer games such as crysis and running some at higher resolutions will need for Vram.

..he bought it a couple weeks ago.

yeah thats everything outside of the cd drive and operating system. for the os i would suggest OEM Vista Home Premium 64 bit. In order to use DX10 you gotta have vista so...

I have windows xp laying around my house so I think I will use that untill I get some extra cash. Anyone know what a hp zd8000 notebook is worth used. it has 2.8X ghz and 1gb ram. 100gb hard drive I think. needs new battery. I want to sell it if I build this desktop.

you don't need to spend the money on hyperx memory... you can look at corsair, gskills, or crucial for good but not as expensive ram
