You're also comparing a consumer line of products to a business line. Of course consumer machines will have a shorter lifespan - they're cheap. Business machines are meant to last several years before they are refreshed.

My elementary school used to have them, Dell Optiplexes, The oldest had Windows 95, The GX1 - Windows 98, The GX220-240s had Windows 2000 (GX220) and the newer GXs and other newer ones had Windows XP Professional (the later Dell Optiplexes had a Windows Vista sticker (Originally compatible with Vista Business, downgraded to XP Professional) before they switched to HP by now after when i graduated elementary school, in 2011 they were all Dell hardware, after 2011 they switched all to HP, During elementary school years I have seen a Windows 2000 computer ending up getting the BSOD (blue screen of death), one of the Windows XP ones had network connectivities and the Pentium D one had to stay
