Why doesn't my Mobo like the 24 pin? (PSU)

My old PSU crapped out recently, it was just a regular pos one from a box.

So I bought a new Antec SP-500 500w ATX 12V v2.0 PSU.

My last PSU had a 20 pin connector, but this new one has 24 pin so I used that in my 24 pin mobo. My system refused to boot.

I tried unclipping the extra 4 pin connector, and then connected the new PSU w/ 20 pins and my system booted and is acting normally.

I checked both PSU & Mobo manuals, nothing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

But you still have the additional 12v cpu feed plugged in don't you? For some reason some boards will get by without the added 4pin plug. I've heard someone else with a different make and model board run into this some months back. The way your board is configured you probably don't need it. On another board you would.

If you have left everything at the defaults in the bios you probably haven't enabled a feature that would then require that be plugged in as well. This is due to the newer power distribution on boards newer then Socket 754 models having the need for the extra 4 pins.
