I recently bought a 500watt psu, and i want to install an older mb in my case just temperary (mb from 2002)
will it make no difference or is the mb too old for the psu?

Most older boards use a 20 pin power plug.

Most new PSU's have a 20+4 configuration,
so you can use them on older boards as well.

BUT, if your PSU has a 24 pin power plug, I
don't think it will work. It might, but personally idk.

Not too many PSU's have straight 24 pin plugs. If it did, and the older board only accepted 20 pin, you'd have to do some modifications. The pin-out and all should be the same, but it probably wouldn't fit due to those extra pins and all :p Remove them or something and you'd be fine

A 24 pin power connector will still fit a 20 pin board. just make sure it has enough room to one side to overlap. They are both wired the same other then the extra 4 pins.

It will work. But some boards will have a capacitor or another connector all bunched up beside it where it wont have room.
