XP keeps restarting after the loading screen

HI all,

recently i am unable to load in to windows, the loading screen appears with the XP logo and then a very quick blue screen of death appears followed by a restart.

I have tried booting in to the recovery console using:
chkdsk
finxboot
and fixmbr to no success.

Does this mean my only other options left is to perform a fresh install?

Is there any way of being able to back up files i have on my hard disk without being able to get in to windows?

saw the thread too late, is this solve bro ?
did you try safe mode ?
Can also be virus related but if you want to back up the files and perform your format, you can unplug your HD and put in another computer, or if you have any linux live cd you can boot off that cd and backup your files to an external.
(But it will be a problem if you have passworded your account and set it to private)
