yeah, and its funny how i knew this would be the out come, everyone pre-judges the OS without even touching it.

The same things happened when XP first came out. XP had plenty of bugs until the first and second service packs came out. I personally didn't like XP at first but now I love it!

With Vista I love the interface, I love the Aero look, and I love the sidebar. I just don't like the nagging security warnings. I'm glad you can turn them off.

I'm gonna have to share that link with my boss.

I've used it and did not like it. Not at all.
Probably because I the last time I have possessed a license of Windows for more than an hour was over four years ago and used only Linux, I probably was too comfortable with Linux.

Also, it's not free. Not that paying for it is bad, but what's bad is that it has no justification to its cost. I'd rather spend my money on hardware than on software I don't like.

I stopped using Windows (XP) when I got a virus and it deleted or messed around with them. It made the system unusable at the point and when I fixed it, my music was a bunch of Notepad files when I clicked on them. My powerpoints I use for teaching did not open under Powerpoint, only in Notepad files with funny characters even if I specified "open under Powerpoint":mad::mad::mad:. Ditto for Word files - lost them all. My system fonts were changed from Trebuchet to a DOS-looking font, but still had the graphical aspect (buttons, windows - I could even go on the Internet after eight minutes of fighting with popups, it just looked like a more colourful rendition of MS-DOS Shell or Windows 1. So I quit using Windows and finally switched to Linux. I've used Linux for 7 years, give or take, but I promised myself someday to use it, and now I am. And now the only time I use Windows is at work.

I know what you all are going to say, how about your backups? I had them but they still did not open. Well, needless to say, the Powerpoint and Word files opened fine with my backup under Linux with OpenOffice. NO VIRUSES! I do have AVG so that I don't infect the PCs at the school and get fired  as Linux is a carrier w/o any effects. (exes cant run under linux and even so wine can't run some exes)

Which Vista Pack is best to get for building a gaming computer, Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM... or something else?

Whatever makes you think that having AVG will stop you from getting virus's ?

AVG's detection rate is low, it's virus definitions are less accurate than others and its servers for updating are usually too busy(well in UK anyway) ;)

I think you should delete your question and start your own thread ;)

Much agree!! So many people judge it but, have never even tried it.

My theory: If people think Vista is a resource hog or slow for them then, they either dont know how to maintain an OS or dont know how to optimize the performance of an OS!! For me Vista is running just as well if not better with just a few Registry changes. But for the average user, those things are not in their knowledge.

Just my two cents

i'm on home premium 32-bit and i've got no complains. it's really good. i only hated the UAC pop ups but once i disabled it, it was better. :)

well, i do hate the occasional accessories (i.e. webcams) drivers not supported with vista.
