Ati?

I've been having constant reoccurring problems with my current NVIDIA cards, and have been considering going over to ATI.

Is the 4870 the best card from ATI, excluding the 4870X2.
Are they planning any new cards coming out anytime soon?

Thanks.

The HD 2900XT is a very good card. but I guess I would say the HD 4870 is one of the best ATI cards, excluding the 4870X2

Yeah, I'm going to look into doing one 4870, I'll keep my current mobo, I just wont crossfire, which probably is wise, since nothing is future proof.

Thanks.

...lol?

The 2900XT is old, even the Radeon 3870 performs better. The 4870 absolutely destroys that card... it is probably the best ATI card excluding the 4870X2, though I heard they're coming up with a 4850X2 as well.

g4m3rof1337 are you rich or something? :D

anyway tbh i would stick with what you have atm, wait until ATI release something new then buy!!!!!

just not worth it atm,an 8800GT itself yet alone two in SLI can hand pretty much anything you can throw at it.

well,... the 3870 and 2900xt are really simmilair. (except the 3870 consuming less power etc) and when I look at the benchmarks, there isnt much of a difference between the 3870 and the 4870. so I wouldnt say it absolutely destroys the 2900xt. but yea, the 4870 is the better card.

Not too long ago, the 2900XT was the best. The 512 bit mem interface allows for crazy overclocking, so, even though it's old, I can understand why Menza would mention it. If it were me, though, I'd get a 1GB 4870. ;)

Indeed, my 2900XT still has a lot of punch, a lot of punch, I can play anything on max, but if you was to get a card, yes, the 4870 is one of the best.

For the price of one though, personally id go for Crossfire Radeon HD4850. Considering you do not want to, the 4870 is good.

When is that 4850X2 coming, or did I dream that one up?

But I'm having problems with the cards and am starting not to like Nividia.

What problems are you having with them?

You wouldn't be able to crossfire even if you wanted to, it's an SLI board ;)

Lol, somehow I knew this whole 8800 SLi idea wasn't gonna end up well...

But yeah, the HD4870 is their "single core" best card

Nah, I'm just not a fan of multiple card configurations... And when g4mer said he wanted to buy a second 8800GT I thought *Doh!* :p

^ Me too, me too.

But you know, the better/higher end the cards are, the more performance they yield so yeah. That's the only time I would consider a multi-card congif, you know, If im gonna use high or mid-high end cards.

And for that you need moneys! and I don't have them... :D

You can go to Best Buy right now and get two 4850's for $300 before tax. Or, one 4870 for $250 before tax... Thats a good deal, you wouldn't think of best buy having and kind of deal like that :p

It's great! All year, they've had competitive deals on GPUs, monitors, cases (as you know)...be nice to see them stock other components as well, like quality PSUs and processors. I read somewhere that WalMart is selling the 9800 GTX.
