Nope, the correct version numbers are:
Windows 1
Windows 2
Windows 3 & Windows NT 3.x
Windows 95 (windows 4.0) & Windows NT 4.0
Windows 98 (windows 4.1)
Windows Me (windows 4.9)
Windows 2000 (Windows NT 5.0)
Windows XP (Windows NT 5.1)
Windows 2003 & Windows xp x64(Windows NT 5.2)
Windows Vista (Windows NT 6.0)
Windows 7... what version will this one be? I guess Windows NT 7.0, but the latest Milestone 3 version which leaked from microsoft says that is Windows NT 6.1

And coming soon: Windows Strata or Windows Cloud.... what name is this???????!???

I suppose Windows 7 should be NT 6.1 since it will probably be a smaller update like the update from 2000 to XP, XP is hardly any different from 2000 except for a few extra features. Also, i put ME after 2000 to keep in order of release rather than version.

I hope my MS rep gives me another free copy, and I also hope that they don't feature limit the OS. They should hopefully just make it all one OS, instead of feature limiting. I thought it was a great idea at first but then I saw how they marketed Vista and though it was horrid.

I am also waiting to see how many new features they drop, like the ones supposed to be in Vista but they dropped.

I want ZFS and EFI support. Then I'd have to buy new hardware though for it to support EFI....hmm, we will just have to wait and see

Actually, it ain't that bad. You know, sell an "it's got it all" OS like XP Pro, and then offer "Home Edition" with pretty much everything you don't need for home (domain logon, system policies, etc.) stripped off, at a lower price point. But yes, the way the went with Vista was just crazy mad.

I never cared about the name of a OS.

Long as Steve Balmer doesn't try to sell it I am happy with life.

I like the idea they will sell a gutted version of Windows...means a possible cheap OS vs a 500 dollar Vista which lets be honest...we gut 90% of the programs and turn off 50% of the processes on.

No it sucks. Because I want to do all of that stuff, and don't want to pay extra for it. Linux is free and can do all of that (bind to domain, directory, encrypt file systems, remote desktop, policy management) for free and OS X is everything for $100.00.

MS is basic crap for $100 and everything for $300.

you can get ultimate for $120-$200 depending on where you look, its still expensive but not $300.

It is for the retail box. OEM sure you can buy it that cheap and I work for the educational system so I get an educator's discount on top of that, but still, 120 for Ultimate, I don't think that is possible. Typically OEM is around 60% of the retail cost.
