what do you think about that cpu? can i use ddr2 ram with it?

The drive is good!!

That cpu is a new Intel Corei7, and as well as being a new cpu, it requires a new X58 chipset motherboard and DDR3 ram!...For this new stuff--your looking at paying top dollar as its only a few weeks old now!

how much more do you think it would be to upgrade everything tno be i7 compatible, I really dont wana have to replace my comp anytime soon haha

2-300 for mobo
300 for base i7 cpu...more if you take next step..to like 500+
200 for ram--3gb ddr3

so u are looking at 700+ just for those core items.

ok, thats like 300 dollars more, is it worth it like is there a drastic difference?

Well, it's all still very new and your paying for that...

I'm using the new i7 940 cpu at 2.93GHZ but I overclocked it and it's now running at 3.82Ghz.

I'm gonna give it a bit more break-in time and I expect to be able to push it well past 4.0Ghz.

As for the i7 920, which is the cpu you'd probably be looking at, I haven't have chance to run any tests on it.

they are quadcore so if i can over clock the cheaper one to similiar ghz as the intel 3.0 ghz one would it be drastically faster?

You can simply o.c the corei7 920 to 3.0Ghz and you are good to go.

I have no doubt it can o.c. much further but you are absolutely guaranteed 3.0ghz, at least!

So you know..

You could do..

core i7 920 @2.66ghz
Asus P6T Deluxe
6GB Corsair xms3 pc3-12800 (1600mhz) (3x2GB)

For $900

core i7 940 @ 2.93ghz
Asus P6T Deluxe oc palm.
3GB OCZ platinum pc3-12800 (1600mhz) (3x1GB)

For $1049.00

Alright im liking this build it seems to be a little faster, and i have ddr3 and can update it if needed, Im gonna look into dual hdd like you said cause the size isnt to big of a deal for me more speed =p

what u think would this be faster OCed of course then the previous build?

You need to change your motherboard to an X58 intel to accomodate the new core i7 cpu.

Also, with the DDR3 ram and the x58 board, its best to use triple-channel or 3 chips together as the x58 boards have 6 ram bays.

I recommend getting a 3GB kit (3x 1GB) or 6GB kit (3x 2GB). you will space the ram in slots 1,3, 5 and leave 2,4 and 6 blank...

Also, you still need a cpu cooler!!

screw i7 its just to expensive lol, what exactly is a cpu cooler a fan? doesnt the case have them or do i need more

EDIT also how do you private message me i cant figure out how to add you messages

Cool man,

I understand completely...i7 is new and pricey!

We'll set you up with a powerful Core2 duo system!!!!!

Also, when you buy a cpu you get a stock cooler with it. The cooler is a fan that sits onto the cpu to draw heat away from it--hence cooling it.

You can use that, but when your spending 1000+ on a nice system, an aftermarket cooler (Fan and heatsink) will be much more effective.--and look cool too!! You can get them from 20 bucks and up

it seems to be good i guess and alot of good ratings on new egg haha..

If i have never OCed anything before if would i be able to figure out how to overclock
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037

to 4.0 ghz fairly easy?

Yes, we can show you how to oc the e8400 in about 10seconds by changing 1 or 2 settings!!:)

I just realized you cant message me since you have under 100 posts!

That Zalman is a great cooler....so many to choose from

edit: I have o'ced my e8400 to a hair under 5.0ghz with only case fans!!..

but don't do that...I'm crazy and can afford to be insane!!

4.0ghz on the e8400 will rock your socks and is a safe overclock..!

1160.00 grand total

ok this is looking like my ideal PC for my price range i put in 2 hdd 320 gigs cause i want more then 500 gigs and these seem ideal on price... Will this setup be able to play games like crysis on high settings?

My x48 system is very similar to yours..

I was running crysis pretty much full tilt with a single ati 4870 512mb...

I added a second one (crossfire) and it was ridiculous!!

Your choice on the 1GB is very, very good!
