ConFicker Worm

The worm starts to look for instructions on Apr 1. The end of the world comes sometime after. As for what the worm will do I don't think anyone knows yet. As said previously this could be an April Fools joke or something more sinister. No one knows. As for security look to see if your system has installed KB958644. This patch fills the hole used by the worm to affect your PC. Also keep your virus scanner up to date and you will be fine.
 
to see if my system has KB958644, do i just search for it?

from what i have heard/researched, the virus is mainly going after credit card info, bank info, and anything that could be used for identity theft. i also heard from one person that the worm is targeting businesses, and the average joe isnt going to be affected as bad as what they are saying. as for that being true, i have no idea.
 
All it does on April 1st is get instructions from the main server in order to create more security around itself to make it harder to detect and remove.
 
So from what I've read if you can boot into safe mode you don't have it. Do you need to boot into the admin account to check or just any user account that has admin access?
 
I just backed up my home server, and warned my dad(although it might be to late) to back up his office server and computers. I think they have those on auto-tape backup though.

Im on a mac, so im safe =)

But the rest of the house is on PC's and the media/file server is a PC, soooo if this thing decides to destroy everything, then my house basically shuts down.

I got a little worried while walking through the halls of the school and seeing the tech department sprinting around and walking in small clusters whispering quietly, as well as random announcements telling the teachers to shut off their computers/re-boot etc...Then again, our tech department is a little sub-par.

If you have your computer updated to the latest of Microsoft Updates and you for sure have the Conficker worm go to the start prompt and select run and then type in MRT. This will run the Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool. It can scan and remove Conficker.

I had no idea Microsoft had a tool built in!:D

Luckily, I don't have the worm. I am running Avast, Super Anti-spyware, MalwareBytes and a few others. :eek:
