Work it boys

I need a new desktop, and I'm going to build one this time around. Currently working with a P4, 250GB Hard Drive, 512MB Ram with integrated graphics computer and I hate it to death.

Expectations:

At least 4GB of Ram, Quad-Core, 500GB Hard Drive and I'd like a video card that can handle some of the newer games. Mostly going to be using it for music, online browsing/researching, homework, etc etc. I'm going to be using some Photoshop on it (just for fun, nothing professional). In the build include the OS, no monitor. Want the computer to last me a few years.

Budget: $800 CANADIAN

*Build from this site www.ncix.com *
(I prefer this over newegg or anywhere else, don't ask why)

If you aren't familiar with the ncix site, then simply use newegg and then make it into canadian prices.

$800.00CAD = $652.335 USD (thanks bodaggit23)
Thanks guys =D

Just a suggestion to the OP, you might wanna think about the tri core phenom II's, overclock better than original phenoms and perform almost as good if not better than the standard phenom quad core;) Also, above build looks great but you should probably have priced it on newegg.ca, and i would change a few things. For convenience ill just post the above list with links to newegg.ca plus the edits;)

Cpu, Phenom tri core 710: ($149.99 CAD)

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

PSU, 750watt vs 650watt, plus its a few dollars cheaper than the 650watt, same manu: ($129.99 CAD)

Lite-On Sata Dvd burner with lightscribe: ($32.49 CAD)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106288

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147074

EVGA 9600gso(basically renamed 8800gs): ($99.99)

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit: ($149.99 CAD)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116488CVF

Btw, above build doesnt have a hdd in the list, so theres one in this list;)

Total cost before rebates:--------------------$829.91
Rebates:------------------------------------------$65.00 USD, ~$80 CAD
Total cost after rebates:----------------------$~749.91

As said before, since you prefer ncix over newegg you can look them up on there, but newegg has easier sorting and better pricing etc.

My apologies, if anyone wants to do a build, you can do it via the newegg the site and then do it the way bodaggit23 did. Lemme make that into Canadian prices....

YES YES YES.
Thank you, particularly bodaggit23 and bomberbysk.
(Wow, I'm quite stupid you guys are the only two that replied.)

Btw bomberbysk, I'll make changes to my build once I get to it, gotta do something else.

I'll suggest Bomber's CPU and Board, but looks like you'll have no
problem fitting a new killer system into your budget.

I thought it would be harder.

You sure the Gigabyte GA-M770-UD3 motherboard will work with a Phenom II Tri-Core 710 processor without having to flash the BIOS Bomberboysk?

I also favor the Phenom II processors. The are a good price and are great central processing units.

Check my build:
I stuck with the Quad-core Phenom because I won't be doing any overclocking.

How would anybody know untill they get the board and know how recent the bios is, they update the bios to the recent one when they are made, so it depends on how long the board was in stock you get?

Dont get the 9950, runs hot and doesnt overclock that well.
Get the Phenom II 710 or 720 BE or even the Phenom II 920

Doesnt matter or not if your overclocking, building a computer right now. The 920 for around 20 bucks more is a better pick all the way around over the 9950. Or for that matter the 710 or 720 is too.

The Phenom II processors are better than the first generation Phenoms. I suggest you go with a Phenom II.

The GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P motherboard will work with the following Quad-Core Phenom II processors:

Phenom II 925
Phenom II 910
Phenom II 810
Phenom II 805

Check my build:

I would still recommend the phenom II even if you arent overclocking, because you may decide you want to overclock it in the future, and its a much more effecient cpu than the 9950. this page has some pcmark vantage results showing the tri core faster than 9950:

Pretty good setup. But change the 9950 to a Phenom II 710/720/920 or 810 . If your going to be getting a 9600GSO the Power Supply is pretty much overkill, you could save some money for the processor and get a good quality 500/600W power Supply. Corsair/PC Power&Cooling/Silverstone/OCZ
