Well, it's happened. my xbox died today. :( I played Mass effect yesterday, and everything went just peachy. but when I tried to turn on my xbox today, all I got were those 3 red lights grinning at me.

I've already mailed Microsoft about it,.. they say its going to take about 2 or 3 weeks. (wich is fair enough tbh.) nevertheless,.. it sucks.
I'm very fond of my xbox,. still am. hope they fix it soon.

About half the people I know with an Xbox had that problem at one point or another. A good friend of mine had his for 3 days and that happened:D

I'll take teh guarantee as long as I can tbh..

Building a custom rc car myself atm anyways. (well,.. a mix of some exsisting cars, and make 1 out of it.)

either way.. this sucks.. as you've perhaps seen, I've bought several xbox games 2 days ago. :(

Everytime someone gets a RRoD I'm glad I never bought a 360 :P I can't believe there are still red ring eligible machines on the market (or was the problem never really fixed?)

i just got my xbox back from them after thd ring of death. still doesnt work right. wont update most of my games and wont play call of duty 5 no matter how many diff discs i try.

If they have an older version, they can still get an RRoD. And they announced what the problem was, and then extended the warranty.

See, this just proves my point. I strongly disagree with going with MS, but you do have a chance of getting it back, working.

if it doesnt work propperly when I get it back,.. I'm going straight back with it.
luckily I dont need the xbox as much as I need the pc.. so its not really THAT bad that I'll be missing it for like 3 weeks.
I do really hope it'll work out alright tough.

As far as I know, all Xbox 360s from 2005-2008 will eventually red ring. It's just a matter of time. With the new consoles that have new chips, they seem to be the most reliable. I haven't heard of anyone with a 2009 console that has red ringed.

what else can i do other than send it to ms?

Go on craigslist. There are lots of people who fix Xbox 360s for $30-$40. Most of them won't charge you if they can't fix it. I know one guy who got it fixed by someone on craigslist, took about 2 hours or so, but he was able to play again the same day.

well i just found out my problem. the hard drive is partially toast. call of duty 5 would go to the menu fine and play some single player games. but every save game would freeze it. also it would crash if i went to multiplayer. so i took off the hard drive and everything works fine. now i gotta get a new hard drive. sweet. 120 gig here i come

Cool. If a product is still in warranty i would always recommend sending it back and getting them to fix it for you as appose to DIY.

I have a 120GB hard drive. $90 shipped and it's yours.

Then what if it's DOA? Or breaks down again? SOL?

It's funny you mention that. Another friend sent his Xbox to MS and they gave him a brand new one. After having it for over a year, couple weeks ago it red ringed on him. MS doesn't really fix consoles. They just replace the broken parts with new ones or refurbished ones.

I have a hard time paying someone money for something I can do myself, or learn how to do it.
