os is windows xp

i well get more ram once i get more money and a bigger hard drive

You will need more than 1GB of DDR2 533 RAM...that's for sure. That thing will run like a turtle with that hardware line up. I know you said you will get more RAM when you have more money but that RAM you selected is a waste really.

Here is 2 x 1GB of Crucial DDR2 800 for $21 and free shipping:)

If you really cannot fit the RAM in your budget...let me know and I'll see what I can do;)

Yeah, what is your overall budget for the rig? There are a few areas that could be improved for a relatively small increase in cost.

Personally, i would do something like this:
ODD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827140038 (Out of stock for now though, most of the sata optical drives are outta stock)

Mobo:

PSU:

Just use integrated graphics for now, then later once you have some extra budget go for something like a 4650/4670, the 8400 isnt a whole lot better than the integrated graphics on the motherboard in this list, as it has some pretty good integrated graphics on it.

Id get a good motherboard, over a cheaper mobo and cheaper gpu. The integrated graphics are actually pretty decent on that gigabyte board(2000 or so in 3dmark06). Case+PSU, read my sig for one, for two, newegg power supplies are junk and off brand. Never use the power supply integrated into a case unless your talking some higher priced antec cases that have antec power supplies(ex- over $100 for the case). That xclio power supply would be able to power anything short of a GTX295 or 4870x2.

my mom just said that i can use stuff this gate way from 1999.

it has a cd/dvd read and a dvd wr on it.

a 300m/700w power.

and a hard drive but i dont know how big or what kind

the hard drive in it is a western digital caviar 313000

umm, 13020.0 mb

dvd/cd writer is a tdk

my mom upgrade in like 2003

well that hard drive work?
thats like a 15gb hdd, the power supply sounds cheap. Unless its an ocz, corsair, bfg, thermaltake, seasonic, fsp, tagan, antec or similar its not worth it. Of those things, the only thing maybe worth it is the optical drive
