im looking to build a gaming computer and i am not sure whether i should go with an AMD Phenom II x4 or Intel i7

but would that be able to futurproof me for at least a couple of years

Of course, i5 750 is better than any of AMD processors

For $80 more you can also get an i7 860 which supports Hyperthreading, which also means that it is more future proof

Either get i7 or Phenom II X4 955. With a budget like yours i7 will be perfect. There is no reason to get an i5 or Phenom II 955 when you have plenty for an i7 build. Go with the i7 920 for sure.

$2500 budget? I don't know if you could even spend more than a grand on an AMD setup lol. Go I7 920 for the best futureproofing.

its true that the 750 is very nice, and faster than any AMD offering, but with that much money an i7 920 is the best bet.

Basically the socket 1156 is fine, unless you plan to run more than one high end graphics card in the future.

If you have the budget, get the best, most upgradeable.

Upgradeable meaning in the future, you can add the fastest cpu and the most graphics cards possible. :good:

Are you getting a pre-built system or are you planning to buy components and assemble it yourself? You can get a really great system for $1,300 in U.S. dollars.
