Heard on BBC News that in europe its avaliable on Vodafone, but I guess as they are tied up with the iphone currently, it may take a while.

That phone looks nice, and the specifications look very impressive. I currently own the HTC Eris (a cheap Android phone) and I'm loving Android!

I'm not a fanboy, but I don't think it's anywhere near the iphone. Apple set the new standard for handheld devices and now everyone is trying to catch up. itunes can be a bitch at times (when used with windows), but overall the iphone is close to perfect. Google/HTC/tmobile/etc won't sell nearly as many units. So, after Apple releases their tablet in a couple months, will Google come along in mid-2011/2012 and release their android "competitor" as well? LOL

The google voice stuff is cool though.

I agree the voice stuff is good. Trying to think of what google might do to match the tablet hmm... I bet the Nexus won't have as many apps as the iPhone.

There is no such thing as a perfect phone, and if there was it would NOT be the iphone. Yeah, technically it's nice, and if hacked to jebus it get's a bit closer(at the cost of lag and stability), but a phone that you pay up the ass for to own and still have to pay 99 cents for an ifart app (and more for anything that's actually useful) is NOT a perfect phone. Not only that but finding good apps is like finding a needle in a haystack. And don't get me started on expensive phones with less-than-mediocre cameras.

As for the Nexus, yeah, it's cool, and it has some really handy features, but I expected more.

Still waiting for a phone to replace my k850i..as of yet I haven't seen any worth upgrading to.

i dont get what all the hype is about..
its just another android phone. theres nothin on it that makes it any better than the other android phones(besides the 1ghz processor). besides that, theres nothin any better about this phone. id still prefer the droid over this.

its an updated android system tweaked by google, although from what i hear it doesnt make that much difference, think one of the reasons there is so much hype is the fact it is a first from google, and google seem to be moving further and further into hardware, and google have a track record of doing things quite well.
im looking forward to the nexus one and that price tag looks good and i want something to knock the iphone off to off its throne as i beleive as with most apple products is overpriced, great quality, but overpriced and with the constant lockdown they put on their software (over all the apple range) it really grinds my gears (lol), i do agree they set a new standard for phones though and i dont believe the nexus one will knock beat the iphone

Ha, While the iPhone is popular it is not the all be all phone. At all. In fact when you look at it for what it is (a cell phone), it's quite average. Yeah, it's got some neat things to play with on it, but price, ongoing cost, and lack of the features I want in a cell phone; good camera, free software support without limitation, small physical size, and none of the hardware inside the phone being held back (I dunno about anyone else but I bluetooth files in and out of my phone quite regularly), you know, cell phone stuff... I dunno, it just seems to me it's pretty much an ipod with a cell phone stapled to it.

I am not sure where you are getting your facts. In fact, this sounds mostly like your opinion, which you are entitled too, however hardware wise the iPhone is right up there, when you go spec for spec. The iPhone SDK is super great and allows developers to make killer apps. Andriod has a few things going for it, but it won't knock the iPhone off the top of the mountain unless it can compete toe to toe with it, and win over existing iPhone users.

The newest apple firmware for the iPhone actually does some really slick things, and you don't need to hack it to get performance at all. Not sure where you got that from either. The only thing jail breaking does, is allow you to run non "Apple Approved," applications. Unlocking it allows you use other GSM providers.

What I mean by without software limitation is that it doesn't have to be apple approved. Not to say that there isn't already some good apple approved apps out there, though they cost money.

I'm not saying it's filled with bad hardware, I was just saying they've not included some of the better functions of bluetooth. Such as lack of file transfer, lack of volume support for audio devices, lack of controller support for audio and other devices and so on. Also the camera is definitely not up there in terms of quality.

As for the performance comment which I'm assuming your referring to my previous post, you seem to have misread, I said jailbreaking costs performance. It runs much better non jailbroken.

Am really good detailed review was in the Sunday Times this week (UK newspaper). Looks like its going to be a awsome phone in time. I'd wait until the 2nd stage model comes out, atleast you know any major faults reported to them will be resolved.

Quantity != Quality. I agree that Apple should maybe lessen their standards, however, the Apple standards are there for a reason. I have yet to have an app crash on me. There are also plenty of free apps out there. Sometimes though, the good ones are only initially free to test the market and now cost money. One example of that is, Dragon Naturally Speaking dictation software for the iPhone. 100% free for now, but in the future may cost money. Developers don't develop apps for free, and they aren't in the business of working with out pay.

The camera does suck, but if I was that worried about it I would carry around with me a higher quality point and shoot camera. I have a blackberry from work, which is a higher megapixel camera than my iPhone which is my personal phone. When comparing the photos side by side that each of them take the difference is very minimal. It is noticeable but very slim differences. I admit that Apple is slow to add bluetooth file transfers, copy&paste, and other features that should be in there standard, but they are releasing them. By what do you mean lack of audio support and audio controller support?

Citation needed. My jailbroke iPhone runs fine, and has been running fine and jailbroken for 2 years now.

Yeah but someone can't develop something which has a risk of competing with the Apple software. For example you'll never see an Opera browser available for the iphone. I dunno, this was definitely one of the more minor things that deters me from it.

Well yeah but blackberry cameras suck as well. Megapixels are irrelevant. Compare it to say a Sony ericsson or a Nokia phone and you can notice the difference.
And no, carrying around a point and shoot is pointless, as I may as well bring my good camera. As a photographer I like to be able to take decent pictures even if I don't happen to have my full fledged camera on me. This phone has worked great, since sometimes you can't even tell which ones were taken with the cellphone.
What I meant by lack of volume and controller support, I mean, say you buy a bluetooth speaker (like my Sony mbs-100), it relies on the phone for volume control. My buddy bought the same speaker but it's pretty much useless because the iPhone can't control the volume. Same idea with stereo bluetooth headphones, my buddy can't get the headphone to control the track skipping etc. whereas I can.

I guess it also depends on what you install. I just remember when my friend had his jailbroken it was incredible laggy after he installed a couple theme items. It also had a much higher tendancy to lock up. He eventually gave up on it and runs it non-jailbroken now.

Android phones do the same thing with Chrome. Plus if it ain't broke don't fix it. I admit that Safari is not my favorite browser, but it does the job fine on my phone. I have the opera browser on my blackberry and it is cool, but I wouldn't call it better than Chrome or Safari. The micro browsers in mobile devices are pretty much all on par, from my experience. If that is a deal breaker for you, then I guess that is it and can't argue against your opinion.

The camera is a moot point because all camera phones suck, I was simply pointing out a very slim point and shoot camera would take better pics. However, I don't look at phones based on their camera, and almost every phone I have had (blackberry, iPhone, Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Samsung) has not had that great of a camera. As for the blue tooth speaker, is that Apple's fault or the speaker manufacturer's fault for not supporting Apple's mobile OS? Apple has a dev kit, a very nice SDK with a virtual iPhone. I have played with it. If the developer can't code it to work properly is that Apple's fault? When you have an issue with a driver in Windows, is that Microsoft's fault? Did your friend try different products that claim to be iPhone supported?

It depends on what you install, some packages are in alpha or beta stages and clearly say unstable release or beta release. Meaning they aren't yet optimized and are buggy. I have had some apps crash my iPhone as well, but it was because I was using the beta versions of the apps.
