Athalon ll vs. Phenom ll

Not worth is imo, the phenoms have 3rd level cache, the athlons don't but with a 50 dollar difference, its not worth it...

Out of those 2 get the athlon because that 810 is a real dog ;)
Even with a real phenom, until you start reaching major clocks where the phenom surpasses the athlons max clocks then the performance difference is negligible.

Twelve C3 revision Athlon IIs

There are currently two different steppings for AMD processors. The C2 stepping, which is the stepping historically used for the first Phenom IIs and Athlon IIs, and the C3 stepping which appeared later with the Phenom II 965BE, before being extended to other Phenom II models. This stepping allows you to overclock more and reduce energy consumption with a lower Vcore.

On the site only AMD Phenom II are available for review C3, the Athlon II are currently only available for revision C2. We tested several times (here and here) CPU C3 review and overclocking ability was very interesting (more than revision C2) but with even lower operating voltage.

The information is made in the Gigabyte website and CPUs supported by the motherboard (such as what to think to update the BIOS can be good ...). There is therefore no less than 12 Athlon II should pass in review C3: Athlon X4 II 640, 635, 630 and 605th; Athlon X3 II 445, 440, 435, 415th and 405th and the Athlon X2 II 255, 250 and 245.
Finally to study this list is a big part of Athlon II should not only be advertised in the revision C3 Athlon X4 II 620 and 605th; II X3 Athlon 425 and 400 and finally Athlon X2 II 240, 215, 240th and 235th. But with the arrival of new models, they should not stay very long ... Incidentally note several new models with the Athlon X4 II 640 to 3000MHz and Athlon X3 II 445 to 3100Mhz.

AMD will continue its merry way with increases of frequencies in steps of 100MHz, we think back to the time that Sergei Bubka increased the world record in the pole vault inch by inch ... One thing is certain in any case, the C3 will review the property at the end Athlon II!

Athlon x4's
Two new Athlon II X4s on the way

Unable to compete with Intel in terms of brute performance, AMD is filling up the mid-range CPU segment with its Athlon II X2s and X4s that offer great performance/price ratios. Remember that these models are Phenom IIs without an L3 cache, which explains their good general performance levels.

All these new cpu's out soon, just wait it out a month our 2 and you can get yourself a nice stepping ;)

Its still somewhat of a tossup actually, ive come across some deneb's still as well as some propus's.

I guess, but I would still atleast get the 630 for higher 2.8ghz clock speed for only like 10 bucks more.

But I also have one more question to the OP....what do you do with your PC? The athlon II 240 is a decently strong CPU, if all you do is simple tasks and even light to moderate gaming, you won't notice any difference at all.

And $9 more gets you a C3 955be. It's ALWAYS just a little more gets you more performance, but at what point is enough enough?

Thanks to all of you that have replied to this thread and sorry that I have not been keeping up with the answers that I have been getting.
Hopefully I can answer a few of the questions that I have been getting...

I play games like cod mw2 and hopefully going to get a few more but I don't have a bunch of money to spend on games. Further down the road I will be crossfiring 2 mid level dx 11 cards when that becomes the standard .As far as the processor goes I want to have a quad core that is somewhere in the 3.0 ghz range which I know it easily attained by the Phenom ll cpu's. I will be over clocking my cpu, ram and gpu sometime in the future. I want a cpu that I will not have to replace for quite some time.

I am looking at this:

I just wanted to see if there are Athalon ll's that are not much worse but will still meet my needs. I am ok with the money for this, I just wanted to make sure that this not overkill, or if I can get more bang for my buck with another cpu.

Again, thanks for all of the replies and help!

Sounds good I will get the 955. Since I am going to oc it a bit, would you recommend a aftermarket heatsink and fan? I would think that something designed to cool this cpu would already be beefy enough to handle a bit extra heat.

That looks like a nice one I have been thinking about this

seems like a good cooler for the money

I am not too big on Scythe products since I owned the Ninja (6heatpipes)that did not perform as good as my xigma(3heatpipes)...

edit*
If was looking at buying a 92mm cooler at a low price I would be reading reviews on this cooler...
