Thinking of getting an Apple iMac switching from PC? Worth it?

I have always had PC's except for using Mac's in school. Ready for a change so thought about getting a iMac? Does anyone have one? Good computers or not? They are a little more than what a PC is going to be so is it worth the money? Any opinions would be great.

generally they are usually more stable cause they are based off of unix i think.. and back in the day when i was messing with them a lower mhz mac was just as good as a higher mhz pc. i find them quite interesting. but when i stopped messing with computers i was on mac os 8 and x was about to come out.

Ive been looking at some on ebay. They have a 24" on there but they dont have a 24" on apple.com - anyone know what thats about?

They are crazy overpriced i say. Go with a regular PC they are just a lot cheaper but do get the occasional virus which aint a big deal.

xxartanisxx just wait tlarkin will be on your ass about the price thing soon :P anyways yeah tlarkin is the apple guy IMO have any questions ask him! ^_^

^ He's also a bit of a fanboy though...

Even with the damned IPS screen, a PC is still cheaper.

I wouldn't really advise anyone to get a mac unless they have a specific reason for getting one, or know for sure that they like OS/X better than windows. It's not that macs are bad, but they certainly aren't for everyone and there's no point in getting one "because it's a Mac" if you're going to do the same things you'd be doing on a computer.

Janda, what will you be doing with this computer?

Umm I am use to a lot of different stuff. Basically it is just editing personal pics for printing and framing. Nothing fancy.

Also it will be in an office with a sitting area so would be nice for an extra area to let my wife and her buds watch movies on it when I am xboxing with friends - haha.

For your situation I'd say just stick with a PC. Macs really aren't a practical thing to buy if you're just doing the same stuff you'd do on windows. No point in both of you learning an entirely new OS either, y'know?

Do you prefer to build your own computers, or buy them premade? (building your own does give you a higher quality machine...)

Also, what's your budget? And would you ever want to play any games on it?

Nope not into building them would rather just buy one ready to go. I guess I should have clarified because we have both used Macs before through college and friends who have them. I am just so sick of the problems that computers cause and viruses etc. I go through a new computer every year. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 I want to sell and invest in a new computer. I have hardly used it and it is a year old.
The "sleek" and "stylish" look and all the rave reviews about the mac have me intriged.

I see

Well if you like OS/X better than windows, you're not going to hurt anything by getting one, but be advised that you can get a much faster computer with a Windows 7 machine. We can show you how to keep your system secure...it's really not hard. All you need is a good AV program and run Malwarebytes every so often. CCleaner helps too.

It's basically down to which OS you prefer and how much you're willing to pay. I will say that iMacs are targeted more at graphic designers and the like, and there's a few high-end features on them that most people won't appreciate. I think the Mac Mini is targeted more toward what you're wanting. It's still expensive for how fast it is, but it should be fast enough for what you're wanting to do.

if i had money to throw around, i would buy a mac. just to see what all the fuss is about. most of what people say makes a mac better than a pc is non-applicable to pc enthusiasts like me, but i don't know what your experience with computers is.

if you think you would benefit greatly from it, then by all means invest in one :)

Well not really that I have the money to throw around I just want a quality I can keep for a few years and not have many problems with. If I can get a better PC for the money I might be open to that as well...?
