Hello,I just built a super gaming computer, spent 6200.00 bucks on it. Well, i had it running beautiful for 2 days and this morening i decided to open the Turbo-V suit, and turn up the "dummy" OC way too high. When I hit 'apply" the computer froze, and i had to turn it off. Now when i start it up, i hear the initial single beep, then after a few seconds i hear a very fast double beep, and my screen remains BLACK, nothing.... ""system specs"mobo- Asus rampage 3 extreem, +++ intel 990x 6-core 3.46 extreem cpu+++ evga 580 water cooled copper block single bay video cards x2 in SLI, 16 gig Corsair ram ddr3 1000w kingwin PSU inside a thermaltake level 10 gt case with a custom water cooling system 120mm radiator, and a 240 mm radiator..... heeeeelp. =....(
I am guessing i need to reset the bios somehow, but since i cant see anything on the screen, it seems imposible. And i am not sure i would know how to reset it if i did. I can put a PC together, but when it comes to the software side i am a novice. Thanks to anyone who can help me here, i am sweating some serious bullets.

Reset the cmos by removing the battery for a few minutes. Unplug the power cable from the power supply, remove cmos battery, press the power button on the case a few times to discharge power, then wait a few minutes. Then reconnect everything and power up. Your bios settings will go back to default so you will need to change any settings that you had previously.

thanks Johnb35, I will head right up and try it now. ... you say "so you will need to change any settings that you had previously. ".... um, i dont know of any previous settings, I have never even seen the bios on this system yet, i just built it and dont know much about bios. I will come back here after i follow your instructions. Thanks so much you have no idea.
....UPDATE, i followed ur instructions to the letter. Unplugged the power, removed the battery, and pressed every power switch i can find. Now i am waiting the few minutes u suggested until i put her back together. If this works, i will send my wife over to your house to give you a massage.
... UPDATE... going up to put it back together,,, crossing my fingers.

Not good. Now i get the initial single beep, followed by a very fast tripple beep a few seconds later. Still nothing coming up on the screen. Any ideas?

Yes, hopefully i didnt ruin it. OK, headed up to reseat the ram. Thanks again for being here for me. be right back with the results.

man, i did the ram re-seat, and started it up, this time i got the initial single beep, then followed by a fast double beep again. So.... i went through your first set of instructions with the power cord, and removing that little round watch battery, and pressing the power button, then plugging it all back in, and this time on startup i get a single beep, then 3 fast ones again. I have some other ram i cn try in it. should i try swapping out the ram??? everything in this system is brand spanking new, i just put it together 2 days ago.

While waiting for your reponse, i will try re-seating the CPU i guess.... its gona be a paain, because of the water cooling systeem, but i dont know what else to do.

If it was working before, you almost certainly have the PCU in correctly, so I wouldn't bother.

Take out all but 1 stick of memory and try to boot. If it fails, repeat with all other sticks and see which, if any, will boot. If they all fail, try in different DIMM slots too and see if any bring any joy.

ok, will do. Thanks again Johnb35. If it werent for you to talk to i would have jumped off the bridge by now. and to make matters worse, my 7.2 surround sound system just arrived from FedEx,,,, and the system i built to run it is broken already. ANd thanks also Aastii. I may end up jumping.....

when seating one stick of ram, which side of the dimm slots should i put it in??? the side closest or farthest away from the CPU??

Update, now i am back to getting one beep, folowed by 2 short beeps, which is saying its a vidoe card problem? both my video cards are brand new, and worked this morning. I will re-seat them also.

++++
Thank you jesus, johnb35, and Aastii. IAfter reseating the CPU, RAM, and a video card, i got the asus RoG splash screen which prompted me to press f2 if i wanted to restore the bios to factory defaults, which it so happens i did. thanks again guys, i have a desktop again, and it looks like nothing to serious happened. i got to leave that damn turbo v button alone!!!

For the sake of testing, it doesn't really matter. I wouldn't go and put it in any random one though for each one, try to stick to the same on one of the ends, so if you do test each DIMM slot, you have already eliminated one and can work through each slot in turn from one side to the other, or do it one bank at a time

OMG, thank you jesus, Johnb35, and Aasti. Well, after reseating the CPU, RAM, and one of the 2 video cards, i got the RoG splash screen, and a prompt to press f2 if i wast to restore all bios setting to factory default. which i happily pressed. and i have a desktop again.

Well, after reseating the CPU, RAM, and one video card, i finally got the asus RoG spalsh screen. with an option to press f2 to restore factry defauts to bios, which i happily pressed. and i now have a desktop again. thank you jesus, jonhb35, and Aastii.

Couldnt you just have used the CMOS jumper? (not removing the battery)

and well now that this topic is done with...
I dont get why people spend $1000 on a i7 990 when a i7-2600k is right up there for $300...

when you got money to burn who cares... right??? lol

if you have more money than sense sure, seeing as how the 2600k, at a third of the price, performs the same as the $1000 990x

@ktec

Regarding the jumpers, some boards don't have a jumper and instead the CMOS reset is done either via battery or by a disc given when you buy the board. It will boot into it and you can reset everything just with that
