okay, so been downloading since 2000 hours yesterday, finally finished and now the DX is throwing an error. How do I fix this?

Open the search box and type dxdiag and press enter to run the diagnostic tool. See if anything doesn't work. I still say you are having some strange issues with this system.

bigfella, its asking for a place to extract to. Where should I tell it?
 
Try the fix suggested by bigfella, extract the files to a folder you create before hand. There should be a setup icon in there when done that you click on to run. Other than that, I say this system is plagued with issues.
 
i extracted to c:\DX and went there and hit install. It did not help any.

And saying it is plagued with issues does not help get it working. one thing at a time, this system will work.
 
Just trying to make you laugh wolf. I don't think I've seen someone with as many issues as you have.

Have you tried to see if you could zip up any files yet? If you still can't then there is an issue somewhere.
 
Its only got so many issues because it know I want to play the game. If I did not want to play it it would not have a single issue.

Try zipping another file. Do you have any pics you could zip? Since you still have those minidump files then I'm assuming you haven't done a fresh install since last night? You may want to try doing that. To me, you have OS corruption somehow. Have you tried running the SFC /scannow command at the dos prompt?
 
I have not tried anything in CMD other than chkdsk and it deleted a bunch of stuff and probably moved some others. what exactly do I need to do with cmd?

And I though I fresh installed before I went to sleep this morning, but I guess I did not.

Put your windows 7 dvd in the dvd rom drive. click on start, all programs, accessories, command prompt. type sfc /scannow hit enter. Make sure there is a space between the c and /.

If you would have done a fresh install you wouldn't still have minidumps from last night. You may have done an inplace upgrade install. Fresh install requires deleting existing partitions and repartition and then install windows. Again, I would probably recommend kill disking the hdd.
 
Time for a fresh install of windows. Make sure you delete all existing partitions and start over. You do have a genuine windows install cd?
 
I bought windows digitally from m$ and burned it to a DVD. It has never given me an issue before.

Ill try a fresh install in a bit when I finish ordering my ethernet cables. Should not be much longer.
