Help me choose upgrades for my pc?

Im a weebit hardward naive, as I dont know what upgrades will benefit me the most, or what I can even use. Heres my system.

GA-770TA-UD3
AMD Phenom IIx2 550 processor (2cpus) 3.1ghz
4gb ram
nvidia 9800 gt
Raidmax Smilodon Mid-tower ATX Case

I must open my case to see what my psu is rated for, but I believe offhand it is 450w.

Is there anything I missed?

Please put middle of the road upgrades. Around 100-150$ to each upgrade.

Im looking to maxout FPS in games such as Black ops 2/Skyrim/Borderlands 2.

Currently BO2 calls for a 8800gt gpu minimum, which, isnt very different then my 9800 gt. I believe they are the same card, with one or two small differences, so I know that will need to be upgraded.

Current FPS in BO2 is 32-19. 32 standing still, 19 once I start moving.

Hi,

Well first off I'm not an expert, just letting you know.

But, I would suggest maybe upgrading RAM to 8gb, if you have a spare slot first off.

I reckon your CPU would be enough for Skyrim possibly but seeing you want to get the full potential out of it, I'd suggest upgrading. Maybe a AMD FX-8120 Black Edition 8-Core Processor? It's around $166 in Australia but you'll have to look it up in your country.

Go for something like a Asus Geforce GTX 660 2gb, it costs a bit though. I have a Galaxy Geforce GT 640 2gb which can max out in Skyrim and Blackops 2 but just passes for Borderlands 2. But honestly anything like a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 550 or better will sweeten the deal.

That's my opinion for you :)

Sorry if I didn't help... But honestly I reckon you would have been better off with a Intel CPU like mine. I have a Intel 3770K 3.5ghz turbo on 3.9ghz quad-core and by god it's made my computer amazing... (I like bragging about it because it's my baby ;) )

Good luck!

Is this machine custom-built or is it pre-built by an OEM such as Dell or HP? That'll tell us what you can and cannot upgrade. Also, what motherboard do you have?

If you can, upgrade to 8GB of RAM definitely - what RAM do you have in there at the moment? Speed? Make? Type? Which slots are available and which are used on your motherboard?

I'd upgrade to a stronger CPU too. You could get a Phenom II X4, one of those should work in your motherboard. The Phenom II X4 965 BE was a good one to get. You could even get a Phenom II X6 if you wanted, but I think you should get an X4.

I think you should upgrade that 9800 GT to something a bit stronger too. Something like a Radeon HD 7770 or 7850 would be fine. You'd need a new PSU though, a Corsair CX 500 would be good for either but I'd probably recommend the Corsair CX 600 if you're going to get a 7850, just so you have a bit of headroom.

It's a custom build, my friend assembled it for me. How do I see what my motherboard is? I.thought it was the gigabyte thing I posted...the ga-77

It says gigabyte technologies GA-770TA-UD3 for motherboard.

Ram is 4gb ddr3 2008 NB frequency, dual channel...

RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS 530W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch
is my psu

Also im going to be replacing each part like one part every two or so weeks. What would the order of replacing my parts be?

Im almost positive that its two sticks of memory, and no, I dont know the brand and model, or what my ram looks like inside my case, so how do I find out? Idt that cpuz had that option for it.

So my plan should be

1.PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088
2.CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
3.VC GTX 560 TI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121425
4.RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313080&Tpk=n82e16820313080

Is there no need to replace my mobo? Also, will these all fit, and be within the 650 PSU range? Are there any better alternatives to the gtx 560? The 550/650 dont really seem as price efficient to me.

I've fixed the memory link and everything will work nicely for the 650 watt psu. I do agree that the 7850 would be better then the 560ti

Should be good.

Did you see the 7850s and 7870s I posted? Either of those would be better than the 560 Ti.

No ive done nothing to try and OC my computer, by unlocking cores, or otherwise. Ive OCed my droid 4 though xD. Id rather not try too OC my computer in case I screw it up and burn something out.

Well I'd be down to try it then if it didnth have any adverse effects such as overheating etc.is there a guide I can follow to do so? And yes I looked at the mad chips. If there better I'll defy buy an mad. What's the difference between the 560 gtx ti and the 7870?

Set it up like this. Then just reboot and see if it boots and is stable and shows 4 cores
Go to ACC and set it to Hybrid and Auto or All.
