I upgraded to win 8.1 and now when I turn on my pc it says restoring to the previous operating system and then the screen turns black. What do I do, this happened on my main rig and I cannot afford loosing all the files I had on it.:confused:help?

Can you get to the desktop at all? If so then I would do a refresh through the PC settings, if your not able to get to the desktop then I would recommend going in through either a Windows 8 disc or USB and trying to use the repair tool.

If all else fells then try to boot into your computer using the "try it" feature in Ubuntu or just use Puppy Linux to be able to recover your data then do a fresh install. Before attempting this though see if someone else has a better idea then what I listed.

From what I am seeing here and the epidemic taking place over at Windows 8 forums this is starting to feel very Vista-ish to me.

I did it a few more times and it finally worked... But does that mean no win 8.1 for me because it doesn't wor on my pc? Like said prieviously 8.1's start is just like vista's, nothing works :D.

Make sure you do all these before the upgrade and they may help ease your pain to include the clean boot.

1) Check and Install latest Windows Updates.

2) Check for Firmware updates

3) No external devices plugged in during the install

4) Consider doing a clean boot.

on the internet you can 'acquire' the ISO Retail 8.1 DVD. Burn it and complete a fresh install. Remove all other non-essential device, make BIOS default and correct boot settings, and then boot from DVD and install.

Update windows.

I have.

this is what I get when I reboot.
