Dell Latitude d810 Laptop

I recently performed a clean install of Winfows 8 on my Latitude d810. I would like to know where I can go to get the drivers downloaded for free. I have gone to several sites that say free driver downloads but all they end up being is a downloaded application that scans your computer to find the drivers you need but then you have to buy the drivers for a $30 or $40 fee. Some of the sites will not even complete the scan because it says that you are missing an internet connection. DAH... how can you have an internet connections when you don't have the network driver. SERIOUSLY!

This is Dell's page for the D810, but because it's such an old machine Windows 8 is not supported on it.

If you want to keep using that machine, you're better off sticking a Linux distro on it.

Good catch, I didn't even look at how old the machine was, just assumed he bought it with Windows 8, I actually looked up the specs and seen those may have shipped with the Radeon X600 which I do not think even Linux supports anymore. One thing I have learned in my use for Linux is older Radeon Drivers are not very well supported.

You may be best off doing a fresh install of Windows XP, there is a compatibility tool MS provides and you can see if Windows 7 32 Bit will support your hardware. Otherwise XP is the best option.

I know Latitude's like the back of my hand. The D series are quite old :) The current series is the E-Series (and even those will soon be replaced with a new model).

Actually, after I installed Windows 8 the machine wasn't supporting it very well. It was really slow so I did a clean install of Windows Xp Pro and except for still needing the drivers it performed great. I still wanted to have Win 8 on the machine so I installed it again and still was running slow. I think I'll take your advice and go back to Win Xp Pro.
Thanks for all the help.

That's because you're running an old processor. Nothing that old will run a new operating system well.

You should be able to get your drivers through the link I provided.
