svchost.exe is getting me aggrivated. i have no idea what it does, yet it runs at 150k memory and spikes my cpu usage to 100. i kill it but it comes back. i read that it could be a trojan or something. what should i do?

I read in a PC World magazine that they're there to help run the programs that are running or something along that line. That's why there are alot of them.

"Svchost.exe" (Generic Host Process for Win32 Services) is an integral part of Windows OS. It cannot be stopped or restarted manually. It manages 32-bit DLLs and other services. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services portion of the registry to construct a list of services that it needs to load. In normal conditions multiple instances of Svchost.exe run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services, so that separate services can be run depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This allows for better control and debugging.

Note: The svchost.exe file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. In other cases, svchost.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! If your system scans clean then chances are its just windows going about its business.

Check where the svchost.exe process is coming from by using ProcessXP.. get it here for free: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

i figured out it was lexmark proceses running. they get the svchost all worked up and kill resources. i read up and lexmark lexpps.exe and lex something else .exe cannot be killed and if they are the printer wont spool. well, i figured it out. go to run services.msc and look for lexbce and disable it. then start the print spool service again if it stopped. if anyone needs it there it is

My fault. I wasn't clear, or maybe I was but I'm not sure about your answer, anyway just to make sure: On the "0x00aa96bc referenced memory at 0x00000000" message box does the title say svchost.exe or some other program?
