will an AMD Athlon X2 4200 do good on games like FEAR if its just 2.2GHZ?

this is where I think I might buy it. The only thing is, even though its dual core, its still only 2.2GHz. That's what mine is right now.

Processors have moved on from the era of Athlon XP's. It's not just about clock speed which decides how powerful a processor is. There are many other factors involved in this.

However, for $20 more, you can get an Intel Core 2 Duo E6300, which easily beats the X2 4200.

The E6300 would be a much better processor. Clock speeds are just a small factor when comparing different processors.

And for either CPU, you should get DDR2-800 for best performance.

OK, well this is my budget gaming system. Should I do it?

That video card won't play FEAR too well... If you want a card that'll play current games with anything, expect to pay around $150 for the card...

I am planing to use SLI so that I won't have to buy a hi priced GPU. Are you all sure that dual GeForce7300GS PCI-E 16X 256MB 256bit DDR2 wont do the job?

Heres a 7600GT for a little over $110

But still, this has got t be my budget system. In the long run it would be better to go with something like this, but at the moment, I have very little cash to do this with. So thats why I wanted to do a little at a time. Buy a good budget now and get another one later was my plan.

Proably not both of those cards together probably are just as good as 7600GS i would just get two 7600GT's and sli those thats what i am planning to do.

Are you sure two of those wont do it? I mean come on, I'm using an AGP 6200, that would be a big step up wouldnt it? On Battle field 2 my min fps on full graphics and 1200x700 something like that is 10fps. I hate it that low. I was an Ideot and bought a new CPU for my old computer and later found out I could have gotten a dual core for less than I paid for that hunk of junk. Pluse I don't want to reliy on AGP because 2 is better than one.
