Fan Plugs

I have an HP a810n, and I am wanting to add some fans to my case.

My motherboard is an Asus K8S-LA. The link to the motherboard is below. It contains a real picture of the motherboard and a diagram. Can someone please tell me places where I can plug a fan into? I have the CPU fan plugged in, and the rear case fan, but I dont know if there's other places I can put new ones.

CHA_FAN and CPU_FAN are the only ones I can see where you can connect a fan. However, you don't have to plug them into the motherboard. It'd be fine to connect them to a molex connection(just get the correct fans or converter) The only problem is you won't have any control of their speed, if that matters.
 
When you plug the power in on the back of an ide type drive like your hard drive or cd drive that opening for the plug is a molex socket. You will note the two corners of the plug are cut at 45 degree angles on the top side of the plug itself. On many newer boards you will see a translucent but not transparent socket at the rear of the board between the PCI-E slot and the PS2 and usb ports there.

The other simple option is to use a spare power plug coming directly off of the supply itself. Even with a cd and a dvd drive plus two ide hard drives there's always an extra 12v feed for use on another 5 1/4" device.
 
Yea they sell them either way, with molex connectors or just the small board connectors, I have saw them with both!
 
Ok, with your guy's help, and a little looking on newegg/google pictures, I just buy a 3 pin fan with a 4 pin connector, and it can plug into one of the unused 4 pin molex connectors on my PSU (I have a couple)

Am I correct? :P
 
Also, I'm using just a generic 250 watt PSU still, and you can see my processor/video card and all that in my sig. Adding a fan wont use too much more power will it? =/
 
ya. fans just need power to run. Theyll only run when the comps on. The only reason some of them plug into the mobo is so that it can monitor the speed of them so if the proc or case gets hotter itl speed it up to cool it down or slow down if its cool enough. Plus some have alerts if it goes to slow or something so you know if your hsf stops working. For regular case fans ya just plug em into the molex and ur set. You can get fans that have speed adjusters on them or you can get a fan controller if you really want to control the speeds. It really isnt neccessary, theyl run fine without one. Its just if you want to lower the speed or something if its too loud or whatnot.

250 is kinda small, it might be low on amps. on the 12volt rail, I would not use to many fans
 
Alright, sorry for the stupid question lol, I've just never had to add a fan, and now I have to, as 50C idling is just too hot for my liking.
 
Yea, I've blown all the dust out, I'm going to buy some thermal paste. I want a new cooler, but my parents are already mad that I spend a lot of money on computers (I dont understand, It's my money lol), and also, I dont want to be upgrading an old system a lot. A new PSU, new HSF and a few fans quickly adds up to $200, haha.

The reason you see them with both is due to various makes and model fans coming 2way adapters. Antec's 120mm blue led fans also come with those.

Denatured alcohol is one cleaner commonly used. It is similar to rubbing alcohol. For thermal compound Artic Silver has been the long running champoin there until the latest Liquid Pro compound now available with the higher price of course. When applying AS5 and reseating the HSF you can let the system run for a few hours only. That will allow AS5 to start bonding while it sits for several hours afterwards.

Who said you have to spend $200 for a new cpu cooler/heat sink and fans to go with it? You can get a few fans in retail stores for $5-$10 and a good Zalman for $25-$55 online.
 
are there any converters out that that lets it use the power from a powersupply but yet still be plugged in the mobo to control the speeds

I was including a new PSU in that cost as well. :P Im just weary on using 250 watts only for another fan.
