Hi everyone

I want to buy a new computer because my old one has gone balistic on me. Right now I think I'll manage with an X1900GT untill the new DX10 cards are released and then I'll probably get an GF8800GTX or an R600 based GPU.

Purposes: Gaming, Overclocking and maybe some modding.

This is what I built-

Price: $2,387.42

What do you guys think about this rig? Anything you would change? Any help would be welcome. :)

I want to build the computer myself so if there's a place where I can get some parts for a lower price that would be great.

One question-
Does anyone know where I can get a Sunbeam Tuniq 120MM Tower air cooling? I can't seem to find it anywhere...
I can get the Ninja Scythe which is also a good air cooling but the Tuniq is better.

Thanks to anyone who helps. ^^

Oh and what do you think about the PSU?
Will it be enough for some of the strong DX10 cards?

It will be okay, though I haven't heard much about Corsair psus. For that price, you could get a much better power supply:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817703005

PC Power and Cooling is the cream of the crop as far as PSUs go. They test their power supplies with high heat levels instead of at -xxC, so the wattage rating is what you are going to get. It translates into a much higher wattage rating if you want to compare it with other high end power supplies

Perhaps I'm wrong, but if you want a Directx machine, shouldn't you wait until DirectX actually comes out? Technically, isn't the x1900 still just a DX9 card?

Also, I'd save a few bucks and just get a single DVD-RW and then a DVD-ROM or DVD-ROM/CD-RW. There's no reason to have two burners.

I don't care for Seagate anymore after my recent problems. And oddly enough, the problems began after they were bought by Maxtor(another brand I won't purchase due to recent problems)

So what brand do you suggest? Western Digital? Then SirKenin will come and say the exact opposite.. :D

Actually I heard a great deal of praises about the Corsair and Mushkin PSUs. I couldn't find any Mushkin on NewEgg or TigerDirect so I took the Corsair.

Can't say I heard much about PCP&C except a few people saying they have one of their PSUs and they're very pleased with its performance. I'll have to look into it and ask around.

Thanks for the info.

I know X1900GT isn’t a DX10 card but I took it because it’s rather cheap and it can run all the latest games on highest settings. It will be more then enough for me until the DX10 cards arrive and settle in the market and I expect that to happen in a few months.

Didn't hear anything bad about Seagate or Maxtor...
I did hear some unpleasant "rumors" about WD being exceptionally loud.
Seagate and Maxtor are supposed to be more quite and Samsung are rumored to be the most quite.

Dont know where you heard the stuff about the WD drives, i have a cheapo SATA and i cant hear it at all. The better ones are even quieter.

All my WD drives, including the Raptors I once had, have been extreamly quiet. I think my Seagate drives have been the most quiet(excluding the last one :P) But I still prefer WD...

Samsung really has come along. I've yet to try once since my 3.2G that came in my Emachines, but I beleive they have one of the fastest drives avaliable. I've not heard anything bad about them recently, but they also aren't as widely used as other brands.

About the WD being noisey I tested it with a few friends and it's true.
You don't notice the noises of the HDs in a normal computer but if your's is well cooled and you have a good case it can be just as noisy as the other parts.

We've compared a WD Sata2 320GB and a WD Sata 250GB with a Maxtor 250GB and a Seagate 500GB both Sata2 and the WDs were significantly louder. I usualy don't like to diss companies but the 2 WD HDs were supposed to be quiter because the modules we tested cost around 30% more then their Seagate and Maxtor counterparts.

The WDs are loud, yes. I have a Raptor and the thing is a ****ing rattletrap.. But it's fast and I love it. I have a couple more WDs too, but that's not because I wanted them, trust me.

Seagate has an excellent reputation.. Maxtor is quite good, but they have released a few bum lines that completely sucked. Samsung Spinpoint Ts are probably the fastest and quietest on the market for 7200RPM drives. That's what I would recommend.

I agree about the 2 DVD/RWs. That's just retarded. (Hai, you were mean to that other guy for no reason, so you can't bitch at me).

I don't see why you need 2 HDDs off the bat. If you're planning to put them in a "RAID" 0 "array", don't bother wasting your time and money.

If you're not going to be doing some extreme overclocking, you don't need the 6800.

But none of this really matters, because usually when I see lists like this right off the bat I assume that they just picked the most expensive or the best of everything they could find and threw a list together to say "look at me".... Could be wrong. I used to do the same thing when I was putting together my wish list in the Sears Wish List Catalogue. Newegg is the new Sears catalogue for nerds like me. :P

Hopefully you'll think twice next time before you're mean to another member on the board that posts a legitimate question about a machine. At least his sounded realistic.

Yeah, I think I'll go with the Samsung.

That's not retarded, that's just what I need. I'll feel better if I have 2 burners because allot of times I want to burn multiple CDs at the same time and if I'm caught without a Burner I'll be in trouble.

And who was I mean too again?

I don't see why you need 2 HDDs off the bat. If you're planning to put them in a "RAID" 0 "array", don't bother wasting your time and money.

I'm not planning on putting them in a RAID 0 array, I just wand a big volume. A 500GB HD costs 4 times as much as a 250GB and I'm about to get a Full Tower case so 2 HDs won't give me any trouble. Actually I'm saving money not wasting it.

If you're not going to be doing some extreme overclocking, you don't need the 6800.

I am going to do some extreme OC.
It's the best CPU on the market an I can afford it so why not take it?

If that was really what I was trying to do then a did a piss poor job at doing it.

Tell me exactly what I wasted my money on? If you're looking at the Stacker then I took it on purpose. I'm going to do some modding in the future and will probably convert it into a BTX case and will also buy a nice water cooling system.

All the other parts I took are good parts which suit me well both for gaming and for heavy OC duties.

Hopefully you'll think twice next time before you're mean to another member on the board that posts a legitimate question about a machine. At least his sounded realistic.

Who the hell was I mean to? >_>

Corsair and Mushkin PSUs? To say the least, I've never really heard of them before. But it seems to have plenty of power.

Yeah I know what you're talking about... They're not that widely known but I did hear from various sources that they're some of the best on the market.

Right now I'm digging up some info about the PCP&C PSUs and they seem to be very strong and reliable. ^^

Burn multiple CDs at the same time? You can't wait 4 minutes to burn another CD? You just have a lineup of people to hand them out to? Hmmm. Sure. And you think that an single PATA interface can handle that? You would definitely have to put them on separate controllers. You try it and get back to me. I'd like to see the pile of coasters. I'd sure like to know where you are downloading all this software from if you have to burn two at once just to keep up.

It's good that you're not considering RAID. Two separate HDDs is much safer.

Btw, just think about this, no need to respond, what could you have possibly added to the list that was better than what you got (besides the power supply, but that's fair because you didn't know about PC P&C)? And what exactly is so "DX10" about that puter? I still can't figure that out. lol

I dunno. I'll believe it when I see the pics. But good luck with it if you are actually serious. It will be a killer machine.

You know who you were mean to... Just go read some recent threads.

Dude, back off! You could've just asked like a normal human being instead of pouncing at me and I would explain it to you but now you can talk all you want about it being retarded and what not... I'm getting 2 DVD Burners because I need them.

Didn't say I'm not considering RAID, just said I'm not considering RAID 0.

You obviously didn't read what I said. Or just didn't understand it...

I'm buying a cheap Video Card right now because a few months from now I'm going to buy an expensive DX10 card.

I dunno. I'll believe it when I see the pics. But good luck with it if you are actually serious. It will be a killer machine.
See pics of what?

You know who you were mean to... Just go read some recent threads.

And I'm saying "for what"? So you can say "look at my two burners"?

Didn't say I'm not considering RAID, just said I'm not considering RAID 0.

Ahh, but that's not true. Either that or you don't know what you're talking about. You said you wanted 500GB. If you put them in RAID 1, you would only have 250GB of usuable space... Which makes me think (besides the two burners) that this is not an entirely serious request.

You obviously didn't read what I said. Or just didn't understand it...

I understood everything. I think it is you who doesn't understand. There is nothing "DX10" about that machine. Why, you might ask? I'm glad you did. Because it's the VGA that's DX10. Not the remainder of the machine. The remainder of the machine has nothing to do with it.

See pics of what?

This supposed rig when it's done, obviously. We'll drool over it together. But seeing as how you don't have your story straight, I think this was just a "fun with NewEgg" exercise. hehe.

Figured out who you were mean to yet? :P

I said: "That's a horrible computer... (No offense)"

I'm sure he is deeply hurted.

Oh, I guess you did. At least he didn't just throw together the most expensive of everything so we could all "oooohh" and "aaaahh". Personally I think you should apologize to him. It wasn't horrible. It was realistic. Unlike this thread.

The whole point of this? You reap what you sew. I hope you learned your lesson.

And I'm saying "for what"? So you can say "look at my two burners"?

First of all, no.

Second, even if I do, so what? It's like asking someone "Why do you want a better video card? So you could have higher graphics in your games?"

Ahh, but that's not true. Either that or you don't know what you're talking about. You said you wanted 500GB. If you put them in RAID 1, you would only have 250GB of usuable space... Which makes me think (besides the two burners) that this is not an entirely serious request.

You obviously don't know much about installing multiple HDs so I would keep quite if I were you.

OMG! I know the VGA is the DX10...

Please read my first message again. I wrote DX10 in the title because I wanted people to understand that I don't need a strong Video Card right now because I'll buy a DX10 card in a few months.

This supposed rig when it's done, obviously. We'll drool over it together. But seeing as how you don't have your story straight, I think this was just a "fun with NewEgg" exercise. hehe.

You're not helping me much in this thread... You can keep saying that if you want I don't really care. I'll get my computer either way.

Figured out who you were mean to yet? :P

The most expensive of everything? I wish... I would have to have like a 10K budget to do that.

The whole point of this? You reap what you sew. I hope you learned your lesson.

The whole point of this is you bitching about me saying something "not nice" to another guy and you trying to make me look like an idiot as some sort of childish payback.

I "Reap what I saw"? LOL!
You actually think I care about one of those things you just mumbled out? please...
