Just be careful how you throw them. boom... thud... bang..... crunch!....  who did this? :P

Gee... Core 2, Core 2, yaa... yaa.. yaa! Sorry I beat everyone else to the punchline on what cpu to buy. Here we have a different fan club for AMD! :D

Have any specific or favored items in mind for the new build. You will obviously want to decide on the type of cooling methods especially if you have OCing in mind.

C2D should be a written law lol

but is OC'ing easy? casue could i get a cheap C2D and make it faster

and. cooling depends on ocing

You wont need to OC much, but you can... and you can get a good Zalman or something, an E6400, and go through the roof.

Whose law is that? You want a "cheap" cpu?

If you plan on OCing you will definitely want to look over a few higher end cpu coolers like those put out by Artic Cooling and Zalman. The Zalman CNS9500 has done a great job with the AMD model here and should work as well as the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. For a look at the Zalman model, http://www.coolerguys.com/840556025061.html

The Freezer 7 Pro can be seen at http://www.coolerguys.com/840556021407.html

A good case, I couldn't say enough good things about my case. It cost 120.00 though with no PSU. Thats another thing, don't skimp on the PSU. Good power and good airflow are key to a good performace computer. I don't mean gigantic and I don't mean 1000 watts, I mean reliable, quality componets.

A lot of people like to make recommendations but until you look for yourself you are really just taking peoples advice from the internet, granted I do as well and it is helpful. But you need to undertsand your decisions to make the best purchases for your own needs.

Good luck, have fun, and keep us updated.

wont it be hard for me

having to make a decent gaming computer with monitor for under 1800

iam looking towards tigerdirect

case...something with good number or 5.25 bays

Newegg has far better prices iif you can have the hardwares ordered from them. You can easily put a good gaming case together for a far lower price then the $1800 max there if you use common sense and shop smartly. The three items that are generally the most expensive are cpu, video card if you only go after the latest and brightest, and the memory especially if you are only after the newest DDR2 800 model boards.

The newer and brighter cpus like Core 2 Duo or the newest AMD FX2 cpus will see the big price tags of over $300. The Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme has that bigger price of $949.50 as seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115001

On a gaming system having a good 2gb of ram installed always helps. Anyone for DDR2 800 PC2 6400? $324.99 on 2gb of Kingston performance memory seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820134066

The next fright is listening to chatter that you have to have the latest 7900GS or X1900 XTX card to play games. Let's look at the newest ATI X1950XTX for $449.99 seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814195024

So far those three items went past the $1,800 max price tag and you haven't even picked out the style of case, power supply, keyboard and mouse along with the monitor. The AMD 4200+ X2 is an AMD model in the sticky seen at http://www.computerforum.com/37635-computer-specs-101-a.html This is a little outdated at this time while giving you some good tiips on selecting hardwares.
