x850xt temperature problems?

i saw someone posting baout how he got a new x850 and said that the heaton it was bad. he said that when running in games it was 80+ degrees and that idle was 40-50 and was very hot to the touch.... he also said that form that happening, when he wa sin games it caused them to lag and be all choppy....

are these temps bad? I DLed a tool that monitors your temps, and my idle is 40-45 and in game (10 min of playing CSS) it got up to 73 as the highest...is this bad? should it be cooler? please tell me what you guys think, thanks.
 
Actually, I'm pretty sure that's normal. My X850PRO idles at 44°C and goes up to 80°C when I'm playing battlefield 2142. It's sometimes lower than that because of the cold weather that's starting to come in, so I'll idle at 36°C and go up to 70°C-ish...
 
It is pushing it shouldn't cause too much concern if you are not experiencing any video degradation all is fine. What type of case and set up do you have?
 
On a video card the load temps of 80C to 100C are average with the larger vpus seen on the newer models. You can buy an after marker vpu chip cooler like those made by Artic Cooling and Zalman especially if you plan on ocing to keep the card temps down. With a card being "hot to touch" that could indciate an ongoing failure of the vpu chip if it continues.

2 80mm fans in the back, 1 80mm on the side, that is a little un-even with, but blows into the heatsink, and 1 crappy 80mm in the front
 
Yea, thats plenty, with that amount of airflow that heat is fine. If your airflow was poor I might b concerned.

How are you liking the x850 anyways?

I like ATI, so I am curious...
 
well people were telling me that they dont liek it and the person i know whos having problems with it concerned me....

i like it. it runs everygame i've played so far on it perfect. other than the heat, nothing concerns me about it. i think somethign else that may affect the temp though is my shitty wiring :)
 
ya, just got the green fans and blue lights today, was hoping to get my wiring cleaned up but it wouldnt reach to go behind the mobo between that wall and the outer case. i was so said :(

While the machine was on and locked I opened the case to feel for heat issues as I've seen this before in other machines in the past. The card (as in WHOLE card) was extremely hot to the touch. This happens in all 3d games I throw at it: CS:S, HL2, HL2 Lost Coast, FEAR, BF2, etc.

No 3rd party drivers or changes (I try not to do that anyway). I have no idea why it's so high. I loaded the ATI tool to see the temp and it's running 40-50 at idle, 85+ in game.

All drivers are updated as I just built the machine today. All hardware tests out ok. I was testing in Vista 64-bit RC1 (ati_catalyst_rc1_vista_64bit) and getting artifacts on the loading screen (as it loaded the desktop) but I attributed that to the system not liking the drivers or bugs of some kind. I wasn't able to get into game on CS:S at all but again I pointed to drivers.

System specs:
ASRock 939Dual-VSTA motherboard
AMD A64 3500+ 939
1GB PC3200 DDR (single DIMM)
250GB Western Digital ATA-100 7200rpm 8mb cache
120GB Maxtor ATA-133 7200rpm 8mb cache
500w Ultra-X PSU

These tests were performed on Vista 64-Bit RC1 and Windows XP (32-Bit) SP2.

Directx version: 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

All motherboard drivers were updated as well.

I removed the slot cover next to the card and reversed the fan flow next to it so the air is pulled out of the case.
Average temp in game now: 77c
Average temp out of game: 38c

The card is on the same power run as the cdroms to make sure it has clean power and I know there's enough power for it to run.

What is the temp range for this card? I'm not getting errors in event viewer at all.

Still waiting to hear. I've now reverted to the 6.8 Cat drivers, updated the BIOS, installed all brand new drivers, everything. Same problems.

I'm still getting errors in game. In CSS it's simple little studders that occur randomly (at least 2 every 5 minutes or so) and last for up to 2 minutes at a time. In Fear, BF2, and Lost Coast it's a complete hard lock. No errors in event viewer.

So far, I've reverted back to AGP 4x and I still have the problem. No hardware errors that I've seen (I'm going to run QuickTech Pro for a while tonight and see what it turns up) and I've not had a problem in event viewer at all.

Again, the system is a new build - wtf?

This is my first run on A64 as well so if I'm missing something retarded that would usually be picked up by someone who has been running it for a while, lemme know.
 
It seems like the x850XT PE (not sure about the XT), runs the fan at 14% only, unless you physically change it. When that was the case with it, it would get up to around 70-75C load, but now when its at 100%, it doesn't get above 55C/
 
Those temps shouldn't be causing any freezing or the like unless something went horribly wrong when it was made. Have you looked at what your CPU temp is? That could be causing your problems if it's too high...maybe...

That's about average for this case. It's actually lower than my 2500+ I had in here. What kind of chip do you have? I'm also running on the stock fan that came with it.

Oh, and I ran QT over night - no issues. I'm running seatoold here in a minute while we go to church.
 
I've heard people say they downloaded atitool to change the fan speed on the x850XT series to 100% all the time cuz the fan comes set at 5% then doesn't speed up until 90 F..I just bought an x850xt and plan on doing the same.
