Geek Squad

I just had an interview at Best Buy and they might train me as a part-time, in-store Geek Squad..... I didn't even know I was that computer sauvee.....

+1 for a semi intelegent person working at the geek squad :D

current score: -5298 :(

atleast things are getting a little better :)

Not to put you down or anything, but I've seen some pretty ignorant people working as "Computer Techs" in such stores :o

That actually makes me feel pretty good because I'm surprised they even considered me...... I was originally applying seasonal for their media and/or computer section and hoped that they would keep after the holidays.
They asked me what I like to do in my free time and I said 'mess around with computers'. He was like 'O REALLY?' and kinda gave a short verbal quiz.... (got sodimm wrong) Anyway, they offered me a postion as an in-store Geek Squad personal as a part-time job and more pay. So, who would pass that up?

Congrats on getting your job!!

Maybe you can make the Geek Squad have a better name :D

Lol so pretty much you mention the word computers during your interview and they offer you a job with the geek sqaud. ROFL, congrats for your but that just makes me laugh at the rest of the geek squad even more.

Is this what you looked like when they said you were hired?

Lol, no..... But it was funny because I was so concentrated looking the guy square in the eyes that at times I didn't even hear what he was saying..... I think I freaked him out a little bit..... I also think I over-dressed a little too as I went in with tie and all and they told me for my second interview to just come in a button down polo shirt and slacks.....

they offered me a job the other day....

it went something like:

Pete: Hi, im pete from the Geeksquad! how can i help you today?
Me: yeah, i was wandering if you had any CCFLs?
Pete: CCFL?
Me: Cold cathode florescent lights...
Pete: we might, what are they exactly?
Me: like neon bulbs, but smaller and produce less heat...
Pete: nope, sorry, but can i interest you in some of our new in stock DDR2 533MHz RAM? its a big upgrade for your standard DDR2-400.
Me: i prefer my low latency DDR400...
Pete: why not get some of our PC2700 its an excellent way to upgrade to more RAM.
Me: because its slower...
Pete: Well, okay then, is there anything I can help you with?
Me: do you know what the difference between Hyper transport technology and having a Front Side Bus?
Pete: doesn't the first one determine the speed of your video card RAM?
Me: thanks, have a great day!

LOL that's funny:D;)

Well, at least the guy I was talking to knew about latency and actually said he prefered DDR400 (he also said DDR2 was cheaper to make and that the pins were smaller..... or something to the equivilent)

Let me take a shot at the question: FSB is how your CPU communicates with all the other components and Hyper-Transport is..... faster? because of multiple data pipelines?

FSB is the Intel equivelent of Hyperthreading for AMDs

eh equiviliant im not sure about.... but its intels variation :P CPU101 for more info

Ach, you know what I mean. Hyperthreading is a little better than FSB because you can change the "multiplier", but with FSB it is stuck at 4.

Both take "core speed" and "mulitiply" (really just how many lanes wide it is) it by a number.

I had the funniest run in two days ago. I was riding my bike home from school and there was a guy who got out of his "geek" car.
Me: Hey
G: Hello, how are things going?
Me: Good, I was just wondering a few things about the geek squad.
G: Ok
Me: What are the requirements for being in the geek squad?
G: Well, you have to have your license and be 18.
Me: O, ok.
G: Why do you wonder?
Me: O, I was just thinking of getting a job in the "geek squad".
G: O ok, well you have to be good with computers to join and pass a "basic" skills test and possibly take a class.
Me: O, I dont think that is a problem, I am pretty smart with computers.
G: Really? Well then, what does CPU mean? (He seroiusly said this BTW!)
Me: Central Processing Unit. (I was kinda dumbfonded by this question).
G: O, that was just an "idiot test" question. (Again, he actually said this)
Me: Ok, can I ask you a question?
G: Sure, what do you need?
Me: What is the architecture of an AM2 X2 processor?
G:.....

G=Geek squad man btw.

I was almost in disbelief, well not really actually. Its pretty funny however.

I wouldent say better.... the FSB can take more overclocking abuse then HTT...
