OCZ Gold RAM. Cool looking, but is it trustworthy?

OCZ makes some nice looking RAM and for good prices, but do they really cause more trouble than they're worth? They have Gold cooled RAM but they have bad reviews. It seems that the main thing in the reviews is that need to increase the voltage. Well, this doesn't seem to be much of a problem theoretically, but in reality with this really be all that hard to correct for the prepared? I want to go with them, but just not sure if I should.

They dont have Gold cooled RAM, do you have any idea how much that would cost? They use copper and/or aluminum heatspreaders.

It depends on the model, but generally OCZ is a reputable brand, and has decent quality RAM.

Yes that would be something. Think how cool they would run if they did have them. I also herd that they are not compatible with the specific MOBO I am getting...

Not that cool. Silver is the best at conducting heat.

Really? I thought it was gold. :p I herd gold was when watching a show on this car, Mclaren F1 I believe it was, and it had a hood over the engine or something like that that was pure gold to reduce heat. Silver huh? Wonder why that is.

Yeah... I dont think so. There isn't anything useful about gold really. And I know for a fact they didn't use pure gold as the hood for two reasons:
1. Gold is super flexible
2. A hood isn't going to make a difference when cooling a car. Ever here of a radiator

Oh. I always thought Gold was the best conductor of heat. And yes pure gold, there are only 100 of them in the world made i think, not positive, they cost a lot of $$$.

gold foil lines the engine bay and exhaust compartment of the maclaren F1 as its a good heat reflector and thus insulates the bay areas..

anyways back to the topic

It is for looks, not for performance. It is most likely just a cover over a traditional hood. Gold is a very flexible metal, and its own weight and the pressure of the wind while driving would cause it to bend.

Hmm....Well I know Gold conducts electricity the best, that's why HD TV's and Hi end USB devices use gold connectors for better power through it.

The OCZ Gold series is just a name, just like they have OCZ Platinum. The higher the model name, the better it is generally. The OCZ Platinum R2 brand is one of the top overclocking RAM sticks you can get, shown to go up to DDR600. There is also a DDR2 version of the Platinum R2. CZ is a very nice brand but as the name OCZ suggests, its for OCing.

Then don't get it, I use them fine but I'm sure you can get a nice Kingston or Corsair for similar price that will do all you need.

Back in the day OCZ was one of the competitors for "THE best RAM" when it came to overclocking. Talking socket-A days so not that long ago lol. I had 2-3 kits from them, won one in a contest and i BELIEVE I sold it later on to a user on this forum. Definetly my favorite brand of memory STILL. Out of everything that went bad in my older computers, my OCZ hopped from one PC to another, upgrade after upgrade. It was always worth keeping.

EDIT: My favorite was there Platinum line. Fingerprints easily but it shines when it's clean. Added a nice hefty feel to each module, good feeling.

DDR or DDR2?

Edit-Socket A, must be DDR. DRR I know they do well but DDR2 I hear has voltage problems..
