Random Restarts...getting annoying!!!

so i have this hp, and lately is been restarting on random occasions, some times in the middle of a game, some times in the middle of burning a dvd!!! and sometimes just browsing the web

now at first i thought it could be my power supply, but after plunking down some big ones on a beefy 400W ps its still happening!! but i do get a "system has recovered from serious error" error report, but when i send it Microsoft says there still looking into the problem, any ideas friends?

never mind, it cant be that, i did FULL searches with bitdefender, avg, and antivir which came up with nothing...help im running out of ideas here :o

400 watt and still shuts down huh..... interesting. Sounds like a classic overheating issue but wit a twist. It might not be over heating at all, maybe a harware issue. Sounds like a hardware issue.

Maybe your value ram chips are goin beserk

^^^ I gotta agree with Bobo on the fact that it is rather low for his rig. But maybe its a driver issue. Bad drivers can restart randomly like that.

Beefy usally means big lol, yes i agree, it's most likely to be overheating. If you are one for taking you system apart all the time, then make sure u've put everything back in correctly. Like once my graphics card wasn't plugged in correctly and i was wondering for ages.

I had the same problem so I replaced my 80 GB Samsung harddrive with my old 40 GB Seagate and now there is no problem.

1. do you have an intake?

2. Do you have an exhaust?

3. what are your temperatures? Use a software for that, they're free, like speedfan.

4. How long ago did this start

5. was it was working fine for a while (and with no changes) and all the sudden did this start happening?

WHOA! speed fans saying somethings running at 119C! I think we may have found the problem, but i don't know what it is, any help?

^^^^^OMG? WTF? GET OUT OF THERE MAN! ITS GUNA BLOW! lOOK IN bios AND SEE THERE! IT WILL TELL YOU! Every time you turn your computer on you kill it more, so a quick fix is a must now, BIOS will tell you what is making and taking that heat.

are you joking? lol, bios isn't telling me, but i think its my integrated ATI express 200 chip, it has no heatsink or fan, and i was touching random chips on the mother board the see what was hot and touching that ati chip seared my finger! but what am i supposed to do about it?

Wooo 119C thats hot hot!!!, are you sure its your Intergrated chipset, cause i would never have thought that component could generate that much heat,

have you tried using everest to find the heat culprit, i find that it is a very useful tool, (although it wont give you a read out of a dell motherboard heat sensors proberly cause dell put any in lol j/k)

Really? not in BIOS? It always worked there for me. Try to use a different computer to communicate if you can.

well this is a HP so its got a crippled BIOS

edit: updating my ati chipset drivers brought the temps down to a steady 116-18C but this still is not acceptable, so i guess its not the integrated graphics but the chipset?

everest shows the mobo, hdd, cpu, gpu running at steady 37-50C so wtf is heating up? maybe something everest dosent detect that speedfan does? sill nobody has answered my question as to what the hell "remote 2" even is?!

Please answer as they can give valuable info to the situation.

4. about 5 months ago

5. yes and yes

and im starting to think its my cpu, cause another program is reporting the cpu temp the same as the "remote 2" temp, but that makes no sense: my cpu fan is running fine and its hooked on correctly....god this is getting unbearable
