looking for LCD Monitor

hey guys,

I'm looking into getting a 19" Widescreen (or bigger if the price is low enough). Budget around 250$ - 300$ CAD. I've been looking at this. I would love to hear any other suggestions. Also I would like to know approximately what dimensions (W"xH") the viewing area of 19" Wide are.

Thanks.

One NEC model with also seeing a 5ms response time is $4.99 over your budget at http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2729578&CatId=170

A lower priced BenQ model is seen at http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2524209&CatId=170

Unfortunately the only Viewsonics seen were not widescreen models. But the response times on the two at the llinks above compares to the model you first looked at. I do give both Nec and Viewsonic the edge over BenQ however. But BenQ manages some good gaming models at 2ms.

$250 for a 20 in Dell E207WFP Wide Flat Panel Monitor (LCD)

They usually have coupons so you can get it cheaper though. Just google dell coupons.

thanks guys,

look what I found, again; same product, same place, different link, different price (appears to be in the overstock section)

The spects for this HannsG is similar to what you guys have shown, it seems to be a good product, would there be a reason to consider viewsonic or any other? I'll try to find the viewsonic, suggested earlier since the specs look good considering there's a vertical refresh rate up to 85Hz.

And also I've seen some Acer lcds around stores ( I like them because of their very simple design), would they be a good product, or is it really the specs witch make a good lcd product?

I would still like to know approximately what dimensions (W"xH") the viewing area of 19" Wide are.

(hey look I'm a platinum member now, lol)

EDIT: Oups, that's the American tigerdirect site... :/

EDIT2: here's an Acer

EDIT3: Look a Samsung in futureshop: here

Viewsonic has a good clear screen on it preferred over the BenQ models even. While not having room for a wide screen model I will eventually go for a 19" Viewsonic to replace the current BenQ 17" with a 12ms response time. ouch for gaming there! The other make is unfamiliar while Samsung doesn't send good signals this way.

So your Saying

Viewsonic - Better
BenQ - Good
HannsG - Moderate
Acer - Try again
Samsung Just plain Bad

That Sound about right? (considering they all have similar specs)

Viewsonic - Best here
BenQ - Good + better
HannsG - Unknown
Acer - Try better
Samsung Crapola like some other things probably!

I Noticed most of the Acers I found dont have a DVI connector

I really like the HannG for the price and simplisty of design, anyone know anything about them?

I dont know about youall but i bought a Hanns-G 19" widescreen monitor for 180 on newegg, and i gotta say its great, it has no dead pixels, it has a very good brightness, its perfect. At first i wasn't sure about the brand, but now i dont regret it... :D

Heres the link to the item:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824254005

The drawback there is that newegg doesn't ship to Canada. The links posted earlier were for models seen at Canadien not US vendors there.

The Model I found at Tigerdirect.ca is almost the exact same as ramodkk shown @ newegg, so no worries there.

Thanks for the info ramodkk, I appreciate it! By the way do you know what the highest refresh rate you can set it on, or is it just a standard 60Hz?

Neither newegg or TigerDirect's Canadien pages specify this. On most good models you will see a limit of 85htz as the rule however. An lcd doesn't require the higher refresh rates often seen with crts climbing above that. In fact lcds can easily run at lower refresh rates then crts can handle.

Yes, but when you think about it, the refresh rate for an LCD is how fast the image is refreshed and the milliseconds (forget what its called**) is how fast the liquid crystal can change state. At 60Hz (Vertical refresh rate), the image is refresh once every 0.01666 seconds, wich means about 16.66ms, but at 85Hz, it's 11.764 ms, so hmm what do you say to that? Am I thinking to hard, lol

EDIT: **Response Time! That's the word, lol

Well, i really not know for sure, fast-looked it up in Internet and couldn't find anything about refresh rate, but in my settings the highest i can set it up to is 75Hz...

Hope that helped.
